Looking for Skeptic Views on "Joseph Keon" and his book "Whitewash"

A family member is on the verge of emptying all his milk down the drain because he's been reading this book. I haven't read it, but it sounds rife with propaganda and psuedoscience. However, I can't find any skeptical viewpoints on this person or his book, he virtually doesn't exist outside the vegan circles.

Also, whats a good 'comeback' for "We're the only species that drinks another species milk!"?

Thanks!

We're the only species that cooks our food, too. Guess we should switch to eating raw meat like the other omnivores.

Who cares?

It's been ages since I've had milk for anything besides coffee. Am I really missing out?

So what if he decides not to drink milk? Does your need to be your family's Crusader Against Woo really extend as far as griefing them about their milk choices?

Don't you have better things to do with your life, your time, your loved ones?

Very hard to get enough calcium without milk or milk products.

Also what health problems has he had? If he has not had any major health problems then milk is not a problem.

There are a bunch of these books out there, whether they demonise milk or wheat or meat or some other dietary staple.

I suggest you check out as many as possible from the library and get this family member to read them all. At least one of them will insist he's being poisoned by something he will flatly refuse to give up, and with a little luck he'll reject them all as the nonsense they are.

Ants drink the "milky" juice produced by other insect species.

ETA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphid

search for "dairy"

ETAETA: and you can find plenty of animals drinking milks if provided. The main problem is that they lack the hand to extract the milk.

Industrial agriculture on animals is far from humane. Eating milk is like anything else, some good some bad.

There are many sources of the US obesity issue, singling out milk is silly. Most USers get more empty calories from sugar of some sort.

And 20% of US children are obese not 50%

It really depends on what the actual claims the book makes are. If you can post some of them, then it'll be easier to provide a critique.

Or, better yet, find books which say the opposite.

I mentioned previously that in Marvin Harris' little book on food practices through history, he points out that folks of "Northern" heritage tend to be able to drink milk life-long; they adapted to the low sunlight in many Northern climes by being able to handle vitamin-D-rich milk after childhood.
Those in sunny Southern climes tend to be lactose-intolerant at adulthood, and have problems unless they buy specially-modified milk products.

"We're the only species badassed enough to take another species' milk!"

Dramatic postures optional, but encouraged.

We're also the only species which wears clothes, kisses, posts on the internet and, in fact, reads. So if the gold standard for things which we shouldn't do is that no other animals do them, then he shouldn't have read the book in the first place. The author shouldn't have written it, either.

...and a bunch of people out there who will be happy to sell you more expensive alternatives.

I think there is plenty in the local water, thanks.

If you are concerned with calcium, I suggest you read up on vitamins D3 and K2.
