I think the LTTE is a pretty good example of what happens when you break an extremist group. They suffered a military defeat, their leaders were killed or arrested, and thus they were marginalized. The end.

It's bizarre in its Orwellian tone, Hamas sending rockets into Israel for some unknown reason doesn't qualify as breaking a cease fire. It seems that only Israel and Israel alone has the capacity to do that.

Actually, my answer isn't. If Canada is being attacked as a retaliation for it's own attacks into the neighbouring state (the USA presumably) then it isn't a blameless victim any more than the Palestinian militants are.

I think a Canada/Quebec analogy is more apt.

Quebecois did not join a war to eliminate the Canadian cancer, nor do they launch deliberate attacks against the civilian population of Canada in order to elicit a strong response which will be used to gain a political win and to cast Canada in a bad image.
