Bigfoot: The Patterson Gimlin Film - Part 3

Yep whether it's bigfoot or god I see the same arguments for it's existence.

Bigfoot Fundamentalists are the true believers... and will argue all sorts of things from the $6 million Man to tree knocks and the "coyote, whitetail deer , BF Triage".

The Moderates vote with the Fundamentalists when it comes down to it. Yet present themselves as someone who of insist that a body be presented as proof.

Yet they still cling to the belief(s). They also are quick to defend their colleagues by either saying that they do not know something or that they know a lot (ie. I never heard her say that or I dont think she really meant to say that.. ).

Easy to spot ? Not really.. but sometimes .

CBengalensis writes the same way Bill Munns does and uses similar words. But that could be just a coincidence. I'll have to go back and do more reading.

Eta - I went back and did more reading. His writing is practically identical to Bill's. I'm not sure what to think at this point.

Not sure what to think? Well, I think that might be your cue to cry fraud, hoax, pseudonym, and start hounding Bill for an admission and an explanation. Seems fair, doesn't it? (please, partially forgive my sarcasm)

BTW, I've read the posts too, and I think they are much more than practically identical, they are identical, right down to the curiosity over the unsolvable mystery.

One way to find out if it's Munns is to rant about how great you thought the FX for Return of the Living Dead were. If he starts ranting , it's him.

That really is one of my favorite movies! Not for the SFX, but for the lunacy of the plot. I's got the DVD.

I love it too, it's just nuts (and written and directed by the great Dan O'Bannon who also wrote Alien and worked with John Carpenter early in their careers).

But on the dvd special features they discussed how Munn's apparently hadn't kept up with the times and basically didn't know what he was doing anymore.... so he got canned.

While I admire Bills work in the industry, I cannot take his claims that the PGF represents a real animal seriously. I do credit him with archiving and documenting the copies with large resolution scans that are out there.

Bill is making money promoting the PGF as a real animal. He is one of the "pro" bigfooters. Do I think he believes in bigfoot? No. I do think he is commited to riding this as long as he can, and continuing to get funding for "more studies". I'm curious what he will do with his report when its complete, if it ever will be.

^River, you keep on talking about admiring Munn's work in the "industry."
Surely you are not referring to the movie making industry!

Munns was less than average in the Hollywood make-up/prosthetic dept. and was fired ignominiously in 1985 with a very small and insignificant body of work behind him.

He is an accomplished taxidermy specialist having been world champ twice.
Unfortunately, none of his work with bigfoot has been related to the world of taxidermy.

Actually I was speaking about all of his work combined in the make up/monster industry. (that would include all of his works in film and taxidermy on this site http://www.billmunnscreaturegallery.com/ )

However much some will put down his works in film, I still enjoyed it. (speaking of swamp thing et all) I think of it a lot like the other parts of the entertainment industry. I've been a musician most of my life, and have worked with greats to not so greats over the years. I still enjoy some of those that may not be considered the best of the best. I will agree that Munns may not be "one of the best". Still quite enjoyable, his work.

I'm not sure much of that applies to this bigfoot stuff with him though. I think it may be more of a career oriented move than an interest of his. I've done similar things in that I've worked with a few pop artists that I'd not been that found of their music. (Latoya Jackson comes to mind as one of those) However, it was still money on the table at the end of the day! I'm not trying to speak for Mr Munns, or trying to allude that I fully understand his motivations. It just appears that way to me. (my own opinion)

Do you think Munns truly believes the PGF shows a real bigfoot? I do not.

I would be surprised to find out he did.

wait, let me rephrase that:

I think that he kinda does on the surface... But deep down ,in his heart, he knows it's a guy in a suit. But there isn't much cash, TV shows or low level "celebrity" to be made on that angle.

Cuz let's admit it, he's kind of an icon to much of the footer world (like Gimlin) and it's awfully hard to risk losing all of your admirers by coming clean.

I still think he gave up on his suit analysis because he saw that everything the skeptics have been pointing out for years was true. His high resolution scans made it obvious.
So instead of doing the right thing and admitting Patty is a bloke in a suit he latches onto the lens analysis, which was a brilliant move in the short term but it'll fail in the long term.

I actually have a lot to thank Munns for, before I saw his high quality scans in the BFF I was on the fence about the PGF. (and it was the last little light holding my childhood fascination with Bigfoot maybe being real) by seeing his scans, I noticed all sorts of problems and came to the conclusion that it must be a suit.

so thanx Bill! you are doing good work creating skeptics.

Well since we are on the subject, i would like to say i thought Bill did some good work on the film also. ~ He boldly went where no man has gone before.

Thanx Bill

Tim / RRS

If he put half as much effort into going where the evidence leads he could easily put together a convincing case for Patty's coat being a suit but instead he keeps playing this ridiculous game, trying to be another Meldrum.
What he may want to try instead is use his skills to prove Meldrum wrong.

I'm curious...what do you consider "his work" in the film industry? What can you point to specifically as one of his creations that he alone is responsible for?
He was just one of many that worked in the film "Swamp Thing" and when he was actually put in charge of doing a specific task in the last film he worked on he failed miserably and was fired - in 1985.

People in the film industry laugh at his name and incompetence - in public and on CD movie commentary!

I too, have experience in the music industry - songwriting, managing, A&R - and have branched out to working behind the camera in music videos and reality TV.
I have also credits in the <gasp> Hollywood film industry (thanks to the company I work with).

I never judge people on their fame - I just judge them on their proven ability - or lack thereof.

The Tar Man from Return of the Living Dead is an iconic character in the zombie genre. For some reason I always picture Tar Man as the author when reading Bill's writing. Weird.

What does Bill Munns have to do with the Tar Man that you see on the screen? William Stout was the man behind the design of what you see and Kenny Myers and Tony Gardner fixed and finished the unsatisfactory sculpting by Munns.

edit: To be fair - it may have been the nowhere near completed work of Bill Munns that had to be completed by Kenny Myers (the guy who was hired to replace the fired Munns) on the Tar Man. Actual incompetence on the Tar Man has not been shown.
Munns was fired from the film for generally incompetent work but the final straw was when the yellow cadaver put on weight all of a sudden when its head was chopped off.
One should take note of the lack of film work done by Munns after his work was singled out and he was fired for incompetence in the film The Return of the Living Dead if one is wondering about his reputation and ability in the film industry.

You are making it hard for me to be nice about Mr Munns career! :) I am aware of his experience, and am trying to not put down anyone's work. I'll just leave it at that. I do appreciate your sentiment, and understand your point as to why it is important.

I've always wondered to what extent you worked in the music industry with your nickname and past convos through boards. Most of the people I've worked with were in rock and metal, but I've done some pop gigs over the years too in between. I've also done some work with jazz people. What type of music were you involved with mostly? We may have some mutual friends. (my work titles include songwriter/engineer/producer/publisher/guitarist/bassist) I currently own and manage a small label, and am writing/recording stuff for my solo album (a first for me) and songs for other artists.
