Moderated Bigfoot- Anybody Seen one?

Both Great Horned Owl and Barred Owl would be expected in the mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. Both reflect large, red eyes as their eyeshine. Both occur in trees - until they pounce on some prey item on the ground.

I would say that owls and night-vision glasses should be ruled out before "bigfoot" is ruled in.

Another repeated bit of misinformation is that there are a couple thousand Bigfoot encounter reports.

Actually there are probably well over 100,000 encounter reports and it could be over one million. But organizations like BFRO and others that "keep the encounter database" routinely throw out tremendous amounts of data because they do not find it appropriate.

Let's say the BFRO gets 10 Bigfoot encounter reports on any given day (mail, phone or whatever) and they toss out every one of them because they are obvious hoaxes or pranks. One of them even describes the witness's grandmother riding on Bigfoot's back for a few moments before it knocks her off and then disappears into the woods. She thought it was "a funny pony".

So then you ask the BFRO how many Bigfoot reports for that day. They report none. But weren't there ten of them? No, those don't count because they can't even be Bigfoot, they are pranks.

How is this misinformation? A few different ways. Primarily, it deprives anyone (except those behind the BFRO curtain) from understanding the extent to which the public enjoys, or is motivated by, telling lies about Bigfoot.

So the Bigfooters go around talking about the 3000 Bigfoot reports and how only one of those needs to be real for the creature to be real. Well, yeah, but tell us about the big picture behind it all. "It must have been more than a million people who say they saw Bigfoot and only one needs to be correct." Wouldn't that be more impressive than 1 in 3000?

No, don't you dare say that there would be that many reports in tallied grand total. It will sound like a myth instead of a real creature and they don't want anything to do with that.

Removing all that obvious bogus crap from the databases seems like the logical thing to do. But it prevents anyone from getting a full understanding of the Bigfoot Belief Phenomenon.

I know of two reports that aren't even on the Internet. Both are from hunting/fishing lodges in Northern Ontario. I was actually up at one of them 2 years ago and that's how I got to know the owner. He's lived in his location for many years and has had experiences that to this day he can't explain. Overall, he's a very down to earth and would likely never feel comfortable going into a subject like Bigfoot with most people. The other hunting/fishing lodge is a much more popular one. The owner there thought I was some kind of field researcher. He told me he's had guys from the states come up and have seen them and he also told me "they" (the Sasquatch) have harassed people from outside the cabins overnight.

OS. You have passed Bigfooter 101.

Believe everything the 'witnesses' say. Do not assume he is trying to get you to book another week at his lodge, or that he is trying to get you to call more Bigfooters to book his lodge.

I'll bet fishing trips have dried up since 2008 or so.

Did you consider that possibility that he saw that you had an interest in bigfoot and messed with you a little?

Found this on the internets, some Ontario lodge put together a booking chart, relating the decline in fishing bookings, and the increase in Bigfoot bookings. It's crazy. I had no idea.

FYI- Bigfoots now have self-generating eyeshine. One does not need a light to see a Bigfoots eyeshine.

One of fascinating things about the Barred Owl (although several other owls can do it, too) is that it is one of the few birds capable of making a noise that sounds very much indeed like a monkey.

In fact, if you type 'Owl sounds like' into google (minus quotes) the first suggestion it comes back with 'Owl sounds like monkey'; and if you click on that, you're greeted with several references to barred owls.

I can't post links (being a 'noob') but several of the first few urls you find with that search will go to archives of some of the sounds.

It's been my conjecture for a while that many people are (willingly) misidentifying owl sounds, not least because I've done it myself. The range of vocalizations owls can make is quite staggering. I've heard Tawny Owls (in the UK), Barred Owls (in the US) and Snowy Owls (in both + Scandinavia) all make vocalizations that you would never naturally associate with an owl.

The fascinating thing for me was that, with several of the sounds I've heard these creatures make, I've never heard a recording of them from typical 'these are the sounds a $so-and-so owl makes' sources -- and yet I know they made them because I was looking at them when they did it.

Ever notice how one survival whacko can commit a crime and disappear into the wilderness and go months without capture? He has human level intelligence right? and survival ability nature knowledge...etc so why can't Bigfoot be like him? proponents may ask?

The cops ALWAYS catch the guy. the go in the woods, find him and drag him back .

and that's ONE GUY!!! so you're telling me that a breeding population in the wilderness wouldn't be detected ? balderdash!!!

Yeah, one guy (Troy Knapp) that they know what he looks like, have his photos and fingerprints, know where he's last been (based on what cabin(s) he broke into) now know what county(ies) in what part of the state and they can't catch the guy over a 10 year period (not months). In the last five years he's been caught on camera once...and they know roughly where he is. Why not send up a helicopter with FLIR and catch him tomorrow, if they can?

I'm just pointing out your statement is a blanket statement that isn't necessarily true.

The Bigfoot video archives of the late Michael Dennett have been digitized and uploaded to the internet. They form an excellent time capsule of the 80's and 90's, when Paul Freeman was the man of the hour.

Here is the classic Good Morning America segment, where Freeman admits on camera to fabricating tracks:

Additional local TV coverage with segment including Dennett, Dahinden, and Gimlin:

A local TV segment that includes a SECOND Bigfoot video Paul Freeman shot:

More Freeman goodness, plus a long interview with Grover Krantz, in which he compares himself to Leonardo da Vinci:

Hey thanks for that! Because it is such a great example of wording deceptively. The first part of the sentence reveals all that they have found up to recently. But by starting with that and ending with "can't catch the guy over a ten year period" makes it sound like they started with all that info ten years ago and could not find him.

It was five years ago that cabin break-ins were first being reported so law enforcement has not been looking for anyone, let alone him for ten years as you imply. And it is only this year that they got an ID on the guy.

It is a great example of crystal clear trail cam photos:

A great video on there. FLIR is useless when a guy is staying in cabins, so that's the answer to that silly question. If they get a hot lead on the guy and he flees into the woods then for a guy like that a reflective blanket is a no-brainer. Mine fold up into a size that fits in the palm of your hand. Not to hide from choppers, but they keep all the heat in. Bigfoot is not known for using reflective blankets.

News sources have not indicated any intensive search mounted for this guy yet. It is a matter of investigating after-the-fact break -ns and abandoned camps so far. It isn't illegal to camp in the woods so it won't be until someone positively ID's the guy at a specific location that they can do so effectively.

I realize your point was to try disproving what StankApe said but the effect is to demonstrate again how ludicrous bigfoot is. Even this elusive human-level intelligence survivalist is on crystal clear game cam shots, his fingerprints have been found, physical evidence of courtroom quality in great abundance awaits trial (look at some of the pictures in the video) etc.

You're making my point; although it has been ten years they've been looking for him, not five. His camps have been found and he has been identified by non law enforcement in the woods, outside of cabins.

"Even this elusive human-level intelligence survivalist is on crystal clear game cam shots, his fingerprints have been found, physical evidence of courtroom quality in great abundance awaits trial (look at some of the pictures in the video) etc." Exactly.

Maybe you can explain the logical fallacy behind introducing a fleeing person donning a reflective blanket. I don't think it's called the "reflective blanket" fallacy, but I'm sure it's got a name. Or maybe because "one survival whacko can commit a crime and disappear into the wilderness and go months without capture? He has human level intelligence right? and survival ability nature knowledge...etc so why can't Bigfoot be like him? proponents may ask?

The cops ALWAYS catch the guy. the go in the woods, find him and drag him back" means something related to bigfoot being real or not? I don't think so. Making an argument related to the ability of a criminal survivalist that isn't caught for months, or years doesn't make a good bigfoot argument. But you probably already know that.

Thanks Tube. Some great stuff. Wonder why Meldrum hasn't championed Freeman's other video and still photos.

Some of the TV station's Bigfoot creations are better than most "real" videos.

Good to see the late Dennett. Always enjoyed his work. And Dahinden, the honest and tragic proponent.
