2012 Debates

Come on moderator - get back in this thing.

I generally like the Lehrer-like hands-off approach... but c'mon, provide a little direction. Like when they talked about education for 10 minutes in a foreign policy debate.

Romney did a pretty good job on the Pakistan answer. Got to give him a point there, that was a good answer.

Romney just seems out of his depth. I think he desperately wants to be a chicken hawk but knows it won't play well. So he is falling back on the idea that he would do the same thing but better. Doesn't work when playing to the wing nuts. The only thing that will satisfy them is bomb the Muslims.

Although Romney now saying he'll leave Afghanistan in 2014 is an Etch-a-Sketch.

The guy is just "all over the map". It's unreal. He has no policies at all. It's just whatever pops into his head.

I think each campaign has a lot to say about who is the moderator, and that they would rather have a lose one than a tight one.

Is it just me or did Romney look a bit uncomfortable there (assuming you were watching the split screen).

That is a good point.

Schieffer has the first real gaffe, referring to, "Obama Bin Laden."

Yeah, I think that was kind of ugly.... I heard it as Obama's bin Laden but neither of them would be good (and I think you are right, it was probably "Obama bin Laden").

Andrew Sullivan's take:

Andrew Sullivan said:
Watching this man shape-shift in front of your eyes is staggering. I'm fascinated by the purity of the cynicism. Seriously, I've never seen any human being up close like this - a mechanical, unstoppable machine of say anything, forget everything in the past, refuse to take any responsibility for anything he has said in the past, and just smile and golly-gee smile his way along. There's a a machine-like quality that chills me. I have no idea what he would do in office on anything. I believe nothing he says.

Then it's settled, the wingnuts should vote for President Kill List
