Where was the Pirate Bay when I was younger and bought a dozen CDs a month instead of a middle-aged guy who prefers listening to talk radio? Oh, that's right. Internet wasn't around yet.

Though I did use it last week to download an episode of Sons of Anarchy because I forgot to set my DVR.

This is a claim I've never heard before, and I seriously doubt it. Evidence?

Yeah I find it hard to believe more people visit Pirate Bay than all the dodgy porn sites out there

Surely Facebook is the #1 source. Most infections I have to work on the person got tricked into a "hey watch this video" on Facebook.

Shutting down these sites doesn't work for one reason.

The .torrent files are tiny. Miniscule.

It is not a problem to re-upload all their .torrent files to another site. It takes them basically zero time to do it.

All the heavy lifting is done by the end user.

You wont find evidence for that:)
Either the poster is allied with those who tried unsuccessfully to shut Pirate Bay down or some-one with few computer skills and no antivirus software

For almost a year now, the Pirate Bay has been "hosting" nothing at all—not even torrent files—just Web pages with magnet links.

Exactly. The .torrent information is so tiny (a few kb) that it can be contained within the normal html source, which I believe is what a magnet link is. Correct me if I am wrong. It skips the downloading and hosting of the tiny file altogether and just sends the information to the torrent software directly.

Too bad. I had hoped it would die.

This is the #1 source of malware infection on the planet.

It does nobody a service by existing except for cybercriminals.

If all it does is punish cybercriminals by giving them malware, what is the problem?

Ahh yes the presumption of guilt

Yeah, wasn't there a thread a month or so ago where someone literally did not know that there are a large number of completely legitimate torrents...

Torrents are just a distribution method like FTP. It would be like assuming all FTPs are illegal.

Tons of legitimate sites have switched from using FTP to using torrents.
