2012 Debates

Snap poll indicates 32% thought it was a tie.

Was Obama potentially sick? I couldn't shake the feeling that Obama was dealing with something. The way he searched for words and took a long time to say anything was similar to how I am when I'm under the weather.

I think he may have been fighting the urge to call Mitt a liar.

your not over matched, you are clearly smart people, you just think with your bleeding hearts, Arnold called you girly men,

not trying to make you mad either,:D Its more fun defeating you.

Well, when you cite Arnold Schwarzenegger as your intellectual inspiration, the debate was clearly over before I even got here. Well played, sir.

Actually some of us would.

Eta: OMG!!! He said that to Kookbreaker! Bwaaahahaha!

Curious. What is your business Kookbreaker? I see in your sig that you can't advertise it anymore. Send me a link via PM, I will definitely buy something for my son when he is old enough. :)

Actually, I run a very successful abortion mill for welfare recipients with my gay-married husband. And in our spare time, we teach children how to burn bibles and turn repurposed guns into decorative flower vases.

You forgot to mention your Koran factory and Illegal Immigrant Transportation Device.

Can't link it but google Spectrum Scientifics. I found out about it through his profile picture. :)

A fantastic concept. Science toys!

Excellent command of the talking points, not the facts.

I think its sad when the talking heads think a candidate can win a debate without taking into account his honesty.

If that is the case -- the liar will always "win." Much easier to handle the current debate format when honesty, truth and reality doesn't matter.

That's what I'm thinking too. Arguing against a liar is very hard to do, since they'll just lie about what they lied about.

It would be nice if the candidates could bring in video clips. Mitt would have to answer for so many contradictions and lies that it would take more than a day.

Yep. I do a whole lot of my Christmas shopping there every year. Recently it was voted best toy store in Philadelphia (or something like that). So that makes logger's infantile insult even more hilarious.

First bit. Trying to find an exact source for the tax cuts but I'm sure it's out there.

"On Friday, Romney spoke out against Obama's plan to hire more government workers.

He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."

And when did he say he wasn't for doing this in the debate?

Second bit.

"When one of his challengers, Rick Santorum, charged at a debate in Arizona that Mr. Romney might raise taxes on the wealthy, Mr. Romney countered, “We’re going to cut taxes on everyone across the country by 20 percent, including the top 1 percent.” Another rival, Newt Gingrich, praised Mr. Romney’s tax plan at the debate as “closer to supply side.”

Shame that raising taxes on the wealthy is an insult in the GOP primary slugfest.

edit: but I guess this is Romney's, what, fifth time "re-inventing" his image?

Romney's framed his tax plan as revenue neutral several months ago. It isn't a new revelation:

Unveiling his tax plan on February 22, Governor Romney's campaign said it would: 1) make permanent President Bush's tax cuts (but not those enacted under President Obama, which are scheduled to expire at the same time and which expanded several refundable tax credits for low-and middle-income families); 2) then cut individual income tax rates 20 percent below the Bush levels, reducing the Bush top rate of 35 percent to a new top rate of 28 percent; 3) repeal the estate tax; 4) repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax; 5) cut the top corporate tax rate by nearly 30 percent (from 35 to 25 percent); and 6) scale back unspecified "tax expenditures," mainly for high-income people. It would leave untouched the biggest tax break for high-income households — the 15 percent tax rate on capital gains and dividends — and eliminate capital gains taxes altogether for people with incomes below $200,000. Governor Romney's advisers also said the plan would preserve "revenue neutrality" and maintain the current degree of progressivity in the tax code.

Since when was Romney such a centrist on so many issues? It seemed to be news to Obama as well.

I guess if you present one image of yourself for a year or more, you can always change it a few months before the election. It's not as if your supporters support you based on precise policy, they love you for tribalism. You're one of them.

I guess we will see if the american public is as stupid and uninformed as studies show, will the polls move in Mitt's direction cause he seemed competent or will they actually look at what he had to say. Because expectations were so low, good move on the campaign's part, that the fact that he made it to the end without appearing like a fool means he won, never mind his policies.
