Due to the moderated nature of the thread it comes from, it wasn't exactly posted this month but it's still recent so I bring you a gem from Robert:

He is a guy making noise about the original copy of Obama's birth certificate not being produced and then he demands to see the 'original' microfilm...

I must be missing something here, surely*. First, he hasn't provide any evidence that this particular document has ever been a microfilm. And more fundamental than that, a microfilm version of it would no more be the 'original' birth certificate than the PDF is, which Robert has also attacked for not being the 'original' copy...

Birthers make me worry about the sanity of the human race in general, and my fellow Americans in particular.

That particular poster has not only a remarkably poor grasp of anything related to physics and engineering - you'd think someone who got a PhD in any scientific field would be unable to churn out some of the grade-school science fail evidenced in previous threads - but the remarkable thing is that none of the arguments even get to the point where physics comes into play, since the very first premise is completely wrong: The vast majority of the material from the buildings - hundreds of thousands of tons - was recovered in solid, albeit mangled, form.

It's sort of like someone claiming they can walk from San Francisco to Tokyo in a few hours equipped with nothing more than street clothes. It doesn't even matter that this claim is nonsense, since they started walking due south from Buenos Aires while loudly proclaiming their expertise in geography.

If an X story chunk of debris falls on a Y story building, I'd expect to see a pile that was near Y stories tall. At least. I'd make a guess that you would
get an X+Y story tall pile of stuff, but okay maybe some crumbling and
crushing would have occurred if a solid object the size of that chunk of WTC 2 fell on a hotel. But it wouldn't make a gash.

More importantly, at the end of the event, you'd have chunk X sitting in
the gash, if chunk X had crushed into it. The gash wouldn't have been that
deep, if crushing had been involved.

It's like you've seen a dozen too many science fiction movies, where
Godzilla walks around crushing buildings with his hands. This is bogus.

Reminds me of the libertarian (son of a High School friend) I once argued with on Facebook. He raged about people who didn't contribute to society stealing from those that did, all taxes were theft, anarchy was a viable form of government, etc...

His mom later confided to me he was chronically unemployed and he, his wife and kids lived on government support.

A relative of mine is well known and respected in the community. Another relative is a highvschool student who got into a small amount of trouble in school and was let off with a warning. He claimed his lienient treatment was due to who he was related to and that others were dealt more severe punishment. I then realized he was implying that the others should have been let off as easily as he was. I then agreed it was wrong to have treated him differently and that he should have recived the harsher punishment too.
His reaction demonstrated that this had never occured to him, nor that it would be the most logical solution.
