is that splodge meant to mean something?

I wasn't sure this was directed at my comment above or not. I am unfamiliar with the term splodge, but I am going to assume it refers to my, perhaps not very clear post, above in a negative way. Further I am going to assume that the criticism is that I spent some time trying to understand and respond to one of RP's points seriously.

I accept your criticism about the post not being as clear as it might be. I thought if the thread has any purpose and interest it is to attempt to understand RP's claims and birther PDF file claims in general and determine what the underlying truth with regard to them is. This was my attempt at that for better or worse.

As others have pointed out, all the yammering about PDF and layers and objects is totally irrelevant. The White House could have hand-written the COLB information in purple crayon on a sheet of plywood, and if Hawaii certified that the information therein matched what they had on file, that should make it acceptable under the US constitution.

I don't dispute that reviewing the PDF file evidence is irrelevant to the legal issue of the birth location of Obama. The birther claim with regard to the PDF file is that there is evidence that the Obama long form birth certificate pdf file shows evidence that it was originally created with a graphic editing program, regardless of what the legal ramifications are of that claim. I just spent some time looking at an element of that claim. I realize that the whole issue is academic because 1. the birth certificate wasn't forged. 2. Obama was born in the US and 3. No legal proceeding with regard to Obama's birth could proceed unless somebody could demonstrate that there was a reasonable basis for suspecting that the Hawaiian certification of his certificate was fraudulent.

Nonetheless, I like most of the people participating in this thread, thought that the claims the evidence of fraud existed in the PDF file was interesting enough to spend a bit of time investigating and discussing. And without this thread I wouldn't have known what a merkin is and that alone has made at least some of this worthwhile.

Don't worry, Dave, a splodge is an undefined something, usually a mark or suchlike, and was IMO directed at the anomaly on the document. I don't know what words you would use in American, but it isn't anything negative.

No it was not directed at you dave it was not meant to be a criticism of you, it was to me thats the sort of noise you get when you scan a document any document.

Splodge is a UK word meaning a mess like undefined object that is often seen on badly printed documents or pavements, a splodge of paint for instance.

Ah, yes. WND. The ones who fell for a Photoshop so bad that that one of Obama's legs had been left in.

See? He has legs! Hawaii is in the middle of the ocean! Creatures from the ocean have fins, not legs! If he had been born there he would have FINS!!!

From Robert's World nut daily article:

The individual pieces were edited – cropped, contrast enhanced, adjusted, etc. – then assembled to form the clumsy whole, complete with resolution differences, dithering differences, duplicated elements like the birth order boxes, and places where two opaque colors cover each other, something that cannot be the result of a scanned piece of paper, where there can only be one color at any one pixel position.
Yup. You heard it here first. Obama's BC is the sole document in the universe to have pixels with more than one colour.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the great state of Kansas, Orly Taitz has arrived

This, as they say, is going to be one for the ages... :D

This might come in a bit late but have any of the birthers actually stated why they are after Obama so bad? I mean, Bill Clinton was hated by the rightwingers and they didn't try the fake birth certificate thing on him. Sure, they tried with the consensual sex with a legal adult angle so they probably thought that was enough.

Certainly, plausible suspicion on birthplace as required by relevant laws would be a perfectly justified reason but all plausible suspicions were demolished by state of Hawaii's statemement. Or is it just "get them thar damn Dem presdent outta the Whitehouse into the outhouse" thing?

The main birther in this thread, Robert Prey, has not stated any actual reasoning but that may be because he appears to be a garden variety troll. But the actual, with-their-own-names-in-public birthers, say Sheriff Joe (was there ever more redneck way to address someone, aside from Billy-Bob?) or this Orly Taitz that seems to be quite a prominent figure?

I think the conspiracies about the death of Vince Foster or the "Clinton Body Count" would be more applicable, which attracted a whole slew of kooks, 'experts' and nutty politicians like William E. Dannemeyer to cluster together. Not sure if they ever filed suit like Taitz though.

Interesting point. The interwebs maybe hadn't spread quite so far during Clinton's admin as they have now.

And blogging, I believe, started in the noughties.

Maybe these days they would have found someone like Taitz to go down the crazylegal route.

Yeah, forgot that one. Or I guess I never realized that people were trying to pin it on Bill Clinton himself. But as the Snopes article notes, since Ole Bill couldn't keep his boning of the secretary intern secret how exactly does anyone expect him to be able to keep a murder secret?

[CT mode]But that is exactly what we've been telling all along, it was just a smokescreen![/CT mode]

Used to read some US gun magazines at the time and there was a lot of borderline CTism in many columns, if I remember correctly. Outright CTism in some, really.
