National Geographic Channel Documentary

I'm sorry, I'm fairly new here. You were in one of the 9/11 documentaries this weekend?
That's great that you get to go share your experiences with the next generation of kids that may take an interest in this subject. At least to the degree that you can share what actually happened before they start hearing all the nonsense that is out there.

Yes. Cheap Shot is Collin Scoggins, Boston ARTCC Military Liason. Forum member Ref interviewed him and posted that here: https://sites.google.com/site/911guide/cs

Things are all solemn now :( I feel the need to lighten things up.

I will never make fun of the victims, the event, the overall tragedy that is 9/11.

... but all you people? Fair game :D!
... I asked that they use Brad pitt for me in the dramatization, but I don't think they followed through with it...

Did they end up using Steve Buscemi instead? ;):p

Kidding! JOKE!! :D

I would have liked Steve Buscemi he would have been great, though I out wiegh him by about 150 LBs.

Now that I think about it, I think they should've cast a certain movie producer for the role:

Separated at birth, I say! At birth! :D

:) I think I feel better now. At least just a little bit.

It difficult to watch any of them. I have sen the video of the plane hitting the tower countless times, and every time, I am reminded of the numerous innocent lives instantly ended. :(
.
Yeah, we're just emotionally crippled skeptics I've heard.
Those people falling from the Towers... Lordie!

I watched "Voices from the Air" from my pvr at noon today

It was difficult to watch at times. At one point I was a electronics tech and knew several controllers. I have been present in ATC when planes have been in trouble, and as such have some small personal knowledge of the tension that is palpable when things are going bad and how contrlloers try to not let that into their voices when transmitting.
I have had to set up a station for the Canadian NTSB where they could listen to conversation between FSS and a passenger in a private plane when the pilot had a heart attack and died. The passenger paniced and did not follow instructions and spiraled in

I marvel at how men and women who know people are about to die yet can continue to do their job desparately trying to save the situation while dealing with their impotence to do so. Many people would simply want stand up and walk away crying.

I was absolutely riveted watching "Grounded on 9/11." An unprecedented crisis, an unscripted solution, everyone had to take responsibility, and everything needed to be accounted for. Decisions were made and trusted unquestionably. Every remaining aircraft in flight (6500, I believe) and every passenger (about two million) landed safely. Extraordinary.

I used this documentary as a training tool for my team. Were you in that, Cheap Shot?

Maybe if they ever do a movie on George Lucas they will hire me, could be a good retirement gig.

No I wasn't in this documentary, they may have used some of my voice tapes, not sure if I have seen this one, but will keep an eye open for it.

If you don't mind me asking, which flight did you handle or what was your job on that day?

I was the military liaison at Boston Center and was called to the operational floor at about 8:25 AM by Dan Bueno the supervisor for the Traffic Management Unit at Boston Center. I went to the floor and spent the entire day calling Northeast Air Defense Command about the Hiajcked aircraft, other potential hijacks, and coordinated the launching fighter aircraft throughout the day.

Thanks, Cheap Shot. Sorry you and your fellow colleagues had to go through this. All of you, including ATC and the FAA, did a remarkable job given the situation at hand.

Here, Here!

In my previous post I hope that it did not seem that I was equating the tension and emotion involved when a small plane has an accident with what would have been the case In Boston, NY,and Indianapolis centers on 9/11/01.

My intent was to say that in a much smaller center concerning sitiuations of a much smaller scale, I have known, as a witness to them, some fraction of what the controllers involved in 9/11/01 were going through.

Have watched 15 mins of it, so far I appreciated hearing the actual recordings in context. It reminds me once again how very far off the mark people like David Ray Griffin are; and how mean-spirited much of the conspiracy speculation is.

Ironically I visited the conspiracy sub-forum yesterday after not checking in for a long time; honoured the request not to post on 9/11.

I'm now trying to figure out how to gracefully bow out of involvement with 9/11 conspiracy theories, particularly with my youtube channel. I don't want to close comments, nor do I want to respond to them anymore.

Frankly I don't think much further work is needed to counterbalance the conspiradriod nonsense - it's not going anywhere IMO. And yes, I really do like the fact that I can turn off 9/11 conspiracy stuff by simply shutting my web browser - poof! It disappears. Nobody I work with ever talks about it so neither do I.

Now onto more interesting things such as Harper and the UN snub, the Enbridge Gateway Pipeline controversy, the Canada-Iran feud, Mitt Romney's missing tax returns..

cheers everyone, may 9/11 conspiracy myths die quickly without inflicting much more suffering on the world.

I was flipping through channels the other day, and just happened to notice this documentary. I had not heard about it before, so I just started watching. Soon I realized it was a new doc. Then I was taken by surprise when I saw George Lucas on the screen . Good to see that you were on that much, Colin. It was a decent doc I think. Important aspects.

After the doc I was reminiscing a little, and went through our interview once again. It brought a small question to my mind. Back then you were planning to go to ground zero and Pennsylvania one day. Have you been able to visit those places yet?

I went to ground zero in 2008/2009, with my wife and received a personal tour by Lee Ielpi at the WTC Tribute Center. There was still gaping holes in the ground, but you could see the transformation of where the two waterfalls were going to be. I interviewed with the Curator Miraim Lobel as well. It was a very powerful day for me. Talking to Lee who had lost his son, there was a very moving experience. I know there has been some turbulence regarding funding for the new museum, but can't wait until the day it is finished I will go back. I will retire in another year or two, and then plan to make the trip to PA to visit the other site. I have occasionally gone back to our interview, it is hard to beleive how long ago that was. Most of it is still very accurate, but I have learned so much more about it especially from people on this site, who have painstakenly researched so much of the information. Take care.

Did the Air National Guard fighters that flew out of Otis Air Base reach NYC at 9:03?
