Egypt Protesters storm US Embassy

Guys usual disclaimer , I am taking christianity because that's the culture I am most akin to but I am sure somebody in asia could find example with buddhism or inddusism or whatever, but here is my two cent.

People burned down cinema and there were riots in my country when the film "the last temptation of christ" 25 years ago was shown. I darkly remember there was even a death or two. So to cut the chase, pretty much *ALL* believer of all religion feel the right to defend their allmighty powerful gods.

Heck they even have sometimes a word for it : blasphemy. And even law against it in some countries.

Someone (or two) died over TLTOC? Really? Citation please. Not saying it couldn't have happened, and there sure was a fuss, but I don't remember a "death or two" over it.

Yes you are right they were wounded :

Martin Scorsese a adapté l'histoire dans son film de même nom sorti en 1988. À la suite de sa sortie, des fondamentalistes catholiques lancent des cocktails Molotov contre deux cinéma parisiens et un à Besançon. Le 22 Octobre, l'attentat du cinéma Saint-Michel fait 14 blessés.

(molotov cocktail used at a cinema exit by fundemmentalist christian / 14 wounded)

You don't see a difference between a lone nut and (say) the mass riots and hysteria over the Danish cartoons?

That's sad. Is there no condemnation of the thugs who actually violated embassy grounds?!

Here's a statement by Mohammed Al-Zwahiri, one of the organizers...

"I just want to say, how would the Americans feel if films insulting leading Christian figures like the pope or historical figures like Abraham Lincoln were produced?""

Like this? Or this? Or this? I'm pretty sure the Pope has been mocked in episodes or movies of of Family Guy, South Park, and Naked Gun. And while the Catholic League may call for a boycott, I don't recall anybody storming an Embassy.

Exactly! Not mention the fact that Terry Jones even made a movie sending up the life of Jesus Brian.

"The U.S. Embassy said in a statement Tuesday that...
"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.""

It said what!?

That's what I thought it said.

And don't these protesters do any work? They just seem to wander the streets moaning about one thing after another.

BBC says this was a statement made before the riots themselves.

They're probably more like the 200 young men who "protested" the jailing of John Gotti.

So I have a question. Where the hell are the riot police busting skulls and breaking this crap up. They seemed both efficient and ruthless a year ago when it suited them.....so where are you?

The question answers itself (but I'm sure you knew that): they are where it suits them to be.

Sorry I am not even American and I find this situation outrageous. Especially Benghazi - a year ago those bastards would be dead if it had not been for US and NATO intervention.

Nice way to say thank you

And what of the cornerstone of free speech? We must not kowtow to bullying. Muslims are going to have to accept that they must deal with criticism and even insult without tantrums. There is a double standard here in the way many laugh at Hindus and their "silly cow worshiping religion" or remain quiet when fellow Muslims do so.

Can't we throw Terry Jones in prison for trying to incite a riot war or something?

It's pretty clear by now that's his objective. He's actively attempting to put US Soldier's lives at risk.

The government's primary purpose is to secure your rights. Let legions fall to machine guns who would take them away.

They deserve to live in a dump like Egypt.

I won't go back there as a tourist, that's for sure.

When I was there, I had the strong feeling I'd arrived late for the good stuff.

And by that, I mean 3500 years late.

Breaking news: the US ambassador to Libya is reported dead. Another embassy no longer safe.

I get the feeling that the movie was not the cause of these attacks nearly as much as it was an opportunity for these attacks. The Washington Post reported that the US ambassador to Libya was killed when his car was hit by an RPG.

That's not Muslims angry and protesting about a movie, that's a planned terrorist attack.

I will put you on the pro Egyptians killing marines side then.

For . . .not throwing Terry Jones in prison . . . for making a movie that is judged to insult islam or the prophet M?

Connect it up for me, because I am not sure movie-makers (even Michael Bay) deserve prison time so that I can avoid being seen as "pro . . . killing Marines."

Listening to some of the advisers on the news, that's not so certain. The public in Libya is heavily armed after the recent conflict there.

Its illegal to incite a riot, isn't it? What's the difference?
