Julian Assange: rapist or not?

Which is very small potatoes compared to the crap the UK government has done to support the "war on terror", so why did he flee Sweden to the UK? That's granting any relevance at all to why an alleged rapist should be allowed not to stand trial and prove his innocence, if tne case against him is so weak.

He didn't "flee" to the UK.

Sweden's Russian submarine scare hysteria was used to push Sweden away from neutrality and Russia towards the US and NATO. Sweden has been moving in this direction ever since, just as the US has been sliding deeper into totalitarianism. The Swedish politicians who promoted the baseless Russian threat fantasy achieved political ascendancy while those who expressed skepticism were sidelined.

*snort* "Drunken accident."

Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Or are you still happier promoting Russian submarine threat hysteria, years after it was proved to be baseless?

The military operations in Libya were conducted on request of the UN security council. Sweden has a long tradition of supporting and providing military manpower for UN operations.

It was an aggressive NATO invasion, dishonestly using the UN as window dressing. Sweden's involvement in this immoral affair was preceded by its involvement in the aggressive invasion of Afghanistan.

Ooh, poor Qaddafi. Poor mass murdering terrorists/harborers of mass murdering terrorists. How dare the Swedes choose to fight them.

'Julian Assange to receive Aboriginal Passport'

We strongly endorse the words of Linda Pearson of the Support Assange and WikiLeaks Coalition, see below, on the total lack of support by our federal government to assist Julian against being press-ganged to America to face corrupt charges against him for informing the world’s people of the absolute lies that all governments continue to tell their people.

Whilst it is true that all governments lie, it is well known that America leads the pack in their eternal quest for American hegemony of the world’s resources. It is well known that all Australian governments since the dismissal of the Whitlam government in 1975, that was assisted and orchestrated by America’s CIA, have meekly put our country at the policies of the American foreign policy interests. Julian is but another example.

Do you have any evidence to the contrary?

It's a pretty far-fetched idea that a Soviet submarine should accidentally have problems with the gyro compass, the radio tracking, the radio navigation system and the echo sounder, accidentally stray deep into Swedish territorial waters and accidentally slip -- blindly -- past all the skerries further out in Gåsefjärden before running aground on Torumskär, accidentally within spitting distance of one of Sweden's main naval bases, accidentally at the same time that Sweden was conducting tests of a new type of torpedo boat.

Now clearly there must have been at least one "accidentally" involved in the actual course of events, but all of them? That beggars belief.

It was an aggressive NATO invasion, dishonestly using the UN as window dressing.

Which is why Libya today is under the iron-fisted rule of a merciless NATO occupation force, cruelly oppressing its population, I suppose.

All those who wish to be issued with a Passport may obtain one by, firstly, signing the Pledge, giving some personal details to be added to the Passport, supplying a passport sized photo and a charge of $10 to help in affraying costs. The Passports are for use by non-Aboriginal people only and can only be used to travel through the Aboriginal Nations.

Wow, a $ 10 "passport".

How can he ever repay them.

The media regulator rejected Assange's complaint that More4 had violated his privacy by showing footage of him dancing in a nightclub in Iceland.

Assange, founder of the whistleblowers' website, has complained about negative media coverage of his legal battle to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faces sexual assault allegations.(..)

Assange said More4 had not obtained his informed consent to appear in the programme, claiming they had misrepresented to him what the documentary would focus on and he had not been told who else would appear.
(..)
Assange wrote to the Leveson inquiry into press standards in April, claiming he had "suffered extensive libels" comparable to Gerry and Kate McCann, who received significant damages from a number of national newspapers over coverage of the search for their missing daughter Madeleine.

It lacks consent Assange claims. Tell that to the people who worked with allied forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. And tell it to the women he raped and molested.

Well, free speech is not all that important anymore, when it don't serve his privat interests.

Please prove that it was baseless, given the fact that there are plenty of well documented submarine intrusions into Swedish territorial waters during the 70s and 80s. Which one of those intrusions were baseless hysteria do you think?

Do you even know anything at all about this or are you just parrotting something you read on a blog somewhere?

How do you rate the veracity of William H. Starbuck, New York University?

"As long as current beliefs and methods seem to produce reasonable results, people do not discard their current beliefs and methods (Kuhn, 1962). As Henry Petroski (1992: 180-1 8 1) put it: "Technologists, like scientists, tend to hold onto their theories until incontrovertible
evidence, usually in the form of failures, convinces them to accept new paradigms." Indeed, the Swedish navy shows that people may adhere to their current beliefs and methods despite very poor results. Even
after two decades of abject failure, the leaders of the Swedish navy continued to construe their organization's failures as the logical result of an amateurish defense force from a small country competing against a highly sophisticated defense force from a large country. "

William H. Starbuck, New York University, appears to accept or at least not question, the conclusion that, although several of the suspected submarine contacts had been misidentifications, "There is overwhelming evidence (technical, acoustical, and visual) that there have been five foreign submarine operations on Swedish territory since 1981," (U-137 included.)

I.e. not all the submarine contacts had been misidentifications.

During the height of the submarine scare in the 80ties, Soviet incursions into Swedish (and for that matter, Norwegian) coastal waters were almost certainly exaggerated and over-hyped. To go to the other extreme and claim that they didn't occur at all, though, is far fetched.

Assange has made his bed and he must now sleep in it.

Serves him right for being a lousy lover.:p

Baltasar Garzón was quoted in the Guardian wednesday last week.

The Guardian said:
Julian Assange's defence team is hoping for a solution to allow the WikiLeaks founder to be questioned over sexual misconduct allegations facing him in Sweden, without risking extradition to the US.
[...]
"(Assange) would be prepared to go to Sweden today if he received a guarantee that he won't be subject to an extradition process to the United States over Wikileaks. It is as simple as that," said Garzon.
[...]
"We are in a position to demonstration that no criminal act has been committed and the allegations are inconsistent," Garzon said[...]

So it seems that JAs defence team now trusts that JA will be fairly treated by the Swedish legal system.

On the other hand, this was also in the article:
The Guardian said:
Speaking to reporters in Madrid, Garzon said Assange's lawyers were not involved in any diplomatic talks to break the stand-off between the UK and Ecuador and dismissed the guarantees given publicly so far.
So maybe it's just a play, since they dismiss the guarantees that have been given, they expect that JA never has to face justice.

More like the fact they're banking on the fact that Sweden cannot offer such a guarantee, as a mean of showing how reasonable Julian Assange is, and how Sweden are just waiting to scoop him up and deliver him to the big bad US of A.
