Are the crucifixion nails of Jesus in Europe?

When I was a Catholic youngster in the 50s, we all had rosaries. Especiallly prized were the ones where the little crucifix had a recess for a little chunk of bone from a "saint". (behind a clear plastic window!)
As a kid, I never questioned the provenance of these things, or even if they were bone at all. Could have come from a butcher shop for all I know.

I have a relic for sale. The Holy Nail Of St. Blackendekker. Any bids?

No, but a pair of His mom, Mary's, hangnails are. And her dried, preserved hymen. In Rome. Pope wears it on his right ring finger. Got the idea from Hans Carval.

Why is it that when people start a sentence with "logically", what follows often isn't?

For the same reason people often start a sentence with "In my opinion" when what follows is an attempt at a statement of empirical fact. "Logically, it follows that the moon must be only 30 miles from the earth" and "In my opinion, the moon is only 30 miles away" both serve as semantic talismans to ward off evil, where "evil" in this context means "contradiction."

Same reason they start a post with "I'm a skeptic, but..." or "I used to be an atheist/Satanist/Pagan/Darwinist/Newtonist/Mormon, but..."

I'm reminded of James Randi's recollection, related in The Faith Healers, about watching unnoticed as a young lad while a priest in a church gift shop took a bag of plastic crosses and shook out some into a basket labeled "Blessed here", and then shook out some more into an adjacent basket labeled "Blessed in Rome".

The spirit who gave the prophecies said that there were four nails instead of three. Logically, four is correct because Jesus was in the center. The thief to His right, his name was Dimas, it was right foot over left foot. So only three nails. The thief to His left, his name was Hestas, it was left foot over right foot. So only three nails also.

I know I am wasting my time but please feel free to explain how you "logically" arrived at 4 when you yourself state the first two only used 3?

In other words, the Catholics are admitting they're all fakes.

It's interesting that you use the words "are admitting" and not, for example, "are claiming" or "are stating."
Is there any evidence that at any stage "the Catholics" claimed the nails to be genuine, or that it is or has been Catholic Church dogma that they are genuine?

Argument from symmetry? Thief on right: right over left. Thief on left: left over right. Jesus thus had to have his feet positioned side by side or he would have thrown off the symmetry of the arrangement. It wasn't a crucifixion, it was a choreography! Jesus was killed by Bob Fosse!

:D:D
I loved the part in 'The Innocents Abroad' where Mark Twain has a thing or two to say about relics!

A spirit revealed that four nails were used for the hands and feet of Jesus when He was crucified. The nails were eight-sided, “octobado”. They had been retrieved from Jerusalem by Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine. It is incredible because the nails made of steel floated on the water and were brought to different places – Karpentas, Rome, Milan, and Paris.

Do I believe this? The story is also found at “Awit at salaysay ng Pasiong Mahal” (in Filipino) read and sang during Holy Week in the Philippines. Any comments?

There is about 84235 true nail of the christ in europe. The whole iron production of middle east went into its crucifixion. So... Hum...

As this thread dedicated to relics develops, I thought it might be interesting to see just what the “Awit at salaysay ng Pasiong Mahal” was all about.
A quick Google search turns up the usual suspect, PasyonWP, which is a gold mine of information in this case.
It's an 18th century devotional book written in verse and read non-stop in teams during Holy Week in churches in the Philippines.

This reminds me of some Tibetan Buddhist practises I've come across.
But to stay on-topic.

What exactly would you have in mind here, PC?
Organise tours to visit the sites associated with these relics?
Write articles, give lectures on the subject?

@Foster Zygote, #52

You are correct, Foster Zygote. Thank you. To make it symmetrical, Jesus was nailed with four nails. He was in the center of two thieves but He was not a thief or their leader.

Why on earth would soldiers who are killing convicted criminals by nailing them to crosses give a toss about symmetry?

You've used some pretty absurd arguments to make your mad woman's pronouncements appear plausible, PC, but this one must be the most ridiculous yet.

Is there now some evidence Jesus actually existed? As for the rest of the magical properties, no it's the usual garbage believes in only by the desperately credulous.

This is the same poster who claimed that the Olympic Games would not take place because of a Thermo nuclear war that was going to break out...
Yep. He seems to need to believe.

What would have been done with crucifixion nails anyway? Were they valuable enough to be reused? Tossed along with the body?
Given the relative scarcity of metal they'd have been reused, after sharpening, or recycled by a smith.

Other than your own beliefs do you intend to support this assertion?
