1. I looked for previous threads on Oak Island, but for some reason the antiquated prison computer system keeps losing the page during the search.

2. I am just trying to find out if anyone here believes there is something in the “Money Pit”?

Where the conspiracy angle to this? I think you'd get better responses in the General Skepticism forum.

Well, it was a pirate conspiracy that was the source of the Money Pit, allegedly, so I can't find fault with this topic being here.

My personal opinion is that there is something to the idea, but that any treasure is unlikely to still be there.

ETA: And welcome to JREF!

I read a lot about the Money Pit many years ago, and it seems that every time you try to prove any of the many claims, you hit a dead end.

There was a thread about this here several years ago:

An interesting article by Joe Nickell is a good summary:

In summary, therefore, I suggest first that the “Money Pit” and “pirate tunnels” are nothing of the sort but are instead natural formations.

ETA: I forgot, Skeptoid did a segment on this also.

Didn't the Wood Hole boys go and have a play there in the 1980s. Thought there final report was......nothing to see here. Apparently they concluded it was natural and there are a number of such geological features in the area

Apparently so, that's something I didn't know about.

Upon the invitation of Boston-area businessman David Mugar, a two-week survey was conducted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1995. This is the only known scientific study that has been conducted on the site. After running dye tests in the bore hole, they concluded that the flooding was caused by a natural interaction between the island's freshwater lens and tidal pressures in the underlying geology, refuting the idea of artificially constructed flood tunnels. The Woods Hole scientists who viewed the videos taken in 1971 concluded that nothing conclusive could be determined from the murky images.[36]

I live in Nova Scotia and grew up believing this tale however I have since entered the world of skepticism and now I think it is more likely nothing but a story used to raise the value of the land.

That being said I am interested if you find anything so please share.

Well seriously, if there was anything interesting there, it would have been dug out years ago. If we can build the Hoover dam, we can dig a hole on Oak Island.

And like you I grew up reading all the stories and I would love for something really interesting to be there

It was awfully nice of those mysterious folks to leave the block mounted there on the tree limb to mark the spot where they buried their treasure.

If I thought the place involved treasure, I would think the block being left there indicates that something was removed, and it didn't matter any more that the spot was known.

Saw the island three years ago from a distance. My reaction: there's the cite that generated so much fuss and bluster. Otherwise, meh.

I believe there is nothing there but hype. I was young when I first heard of it. Just like the Beale ciphers, fun and useless, side tracks in a normal day.

I think there's a lot to be said for Joe Nickell's theory that the tale of the treasure is pure invention:

In summary, therefore, I suggest first that the “Money Pit” and “pirate tunnels” are nothing of the sort but are instead natural formations. Secondly, I suggest that much of the Oak Island saga-certain reported actions and alleged discoveries-can best be understood in light of Freemasonry's Secret Vault allegory.

It's hard to imagine that we would have so much trouble digging up something that was able to be buried there so long ago. I'm on the side with it being just a story.

One can speculate on the likelihood of a terminated with extreme prejudice profession such as pirating burying their loot for a later retrieval, with the short life times they could expect, especially burying it so intricately and so far from any place where it could be spent on wine, women and boys.

I've also read quite a bit on this subject, and just like many buried treasure hunts, all they've accomplished was to have spent millions, while others have died trying to dig up Oak Island, with nothing to show for it.

If it was me, I would build a tourist resort and maybe that would be a way to discover treasure.
