VP Picks 2012

I don't think Natalie Portman would accept that proposition though.

Question on Natalie Portman -- She was born in Israel to an US citizen mother. I think she's probably a natural-born US citizen (depending on how many years and when her mother had spent outside the US), but that will need to be looked into. What she under consideration? I'm surprised she's a Republican.

Here's some I'll bet you never thought of. The religious right never ceases to amuse. I mean Matt Drudge or Dr. Laura Schlessinger or Chuck Norris? Hell, why not the Tooth Fairy?

Heh. Drudge. Apparently they're missing something about Drudge they would consider rather important if they knew. (Hint: teh gay)

:bump2

This is an interesting article. I especially like the very last line:

And please enjoy watching every pundit who confidently made a "bs" prediction pretend it never happened.
I put "bs" in quotes because the autocensor didn't like what he really said.

The tea leaf readers are citing announced convention speaking slots as adverse indicators or a potential's standing in the veepstakes. Let's ride along with that logic, and strike J. Bush, N. Haley, R. Santorum, R. Paul (le fils) and S. Martinez. Note that C. Rice, previously struck, will speak too.

Kristol picks Rubio, Ryan or Christie. As the article notes, since he is wrong on just about every prediction he makes, we can cross these three off the list. :)

He predicts with his heart, not with his head. Useless pundit. Palin's champion. Embarrassment.

What's Kristol's beef with Portman? Too boring?

ETA: I thought that Christie was out of the running because he's giving the keynote speech at the convention.

I hadn't heard that until reading your post, but he was my first choice for keynote.

Ha, ha, even Wiki gets enmeshed in the Veep stakes. They decided to lock several pages of potential candidates to prevent hoaxing.

The pages of Tim Pawlenty, Rob Portman, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie and (following yesterday's Drudge bump) David Petraeus have been locked ...
What does that say about the other hopefuls? :)

ETA: And, btw, what does it say about the power of Drudge among the wing nut brigade.

It does seem like the spot of keynote speaker is reserved for someone who is priming for a future run. Obama was the keynote speaker at Kerry's nomination. As I recall, he blew the doors off.

No, I think that the party's nominee is always concerned most about his own election this year rather than someone else's four or eight years hence. The keynote speaker is chosen for the perceived maximum benefit to the current nominee, period. But then, McCain chose Giuliani. But then again, McCain is not known as a wise chooser.

Kind of a weird thing, for guys like Christie and probably Barrack. There's a part of you that wants the guy to lose so you can run next time.

Dagnabit! I could swear I heard somewhere (probably in one of the politics-related podcasts that I regularly listen to) that Christie was chosen as the keynote speaker already. But apparently there hasn't been an official announcement about that yet:

Speculation rising: Romney may reveal GOP convention keynote speaker

Christie is being bandied about as the keynote speaker, but it's not official yet.

In other news, The Weekly Standard wants Romney to choose Paul Ryan as his running mate. I think that would be a risky choice, and Romney is known for playing it safe, so I doubt he will follow their advice. For one thing, isn't Ryan a big fan of Ayn Rand? There's danger there.

ETA: National Review also seems to be on the Ryan bandwagon
