Continuation: Discussion of the George Zimmerman case

Not open for further replies.
I've called a friend of mine who has an 08 Ridgeline on his dealership's lot, and am getting with him next week to research it.

So I'm looking around for information about the auto delay feature and I can't find anything.

http://www.manualowl.com/am/Honda/2008-Ridgeline/Manual/678?page=79

Again, looking here, there is no mention of it. So evidence to refute your theory:

1. We hear the ding. The ding, according to the manual, is because the lights were left on in the auto position but the key was removed from the ignition:

That's exactly what we hear as George exited his vehicle. This suggests the lights were in the on position, not the off position. You would not hear a reminder chime if you removed the key and opened the door with the lights turned off.

2. The dealer I talked to contradicts your friend, so that's a wash.

3. The manual makes no mention of this feature in a 2008 Honda Ridgeline (manual linked above)

I'm going to call this issue unresolved. Although I still like that you did that demo.

ETA: If the 2008 Ridgeline DOES have this feature, how long, exactly, will the light stay on? I still think we need those two variables resolved before we can tell when, during the NEN call, the lights went out.

As I showed in the Jeep video, if you open the door with the keys still in the ignition, even if everything is off, the car will ding. The lights don't have to be on. No car makes any mention of this feature, not even mine (look up features on the 2008, Jeep Wrangler X and 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, it won't be listed but I showed you that I have it), but when I spoke to him, I was very specific about what I was talking about. I swear I am not just looking for someone to tell me I am right, I wanted to make sure I am relaying accurate information. This feature, as he said, is standard in Hondas.

That may be so, but on a Ridgeline, it specifically says it does this if the lights are on. We know George left the lights on for illumination, and we know he took the keys with him. You can hear the dings until you hear the door close, which suggests the keys were with him. In other words, "****, he's running", grab the keys, open the door. That's how I always exit a car. I want to make sure I have my keys with me.

Now, if you are going to suggest he was in such a hurry to get out of the car he rushed things, that really doesn't help support his story. "****, he's running", followed by his huffing and puffing, is consistent with a quick car exit, but not his calm search for a street sign.

But again, the evidence is consistent with the manual: He grabbed his keys, left the lights on for light, exited the car with his gun and flashlight.

By the way, when did he grab the flashlight after he says "****, he's running" and jumps out of the car? Was he carrying it the whole time? And if so, that goes to another issue, which is his "trip to the store". Was he carrying a gun and flashlight on a routine trip to Target? Sure sounds like patrolling to me...

Because people with carrying permits never actually carry . And of course people never keep flashlights with them. It's this type of post that makes it seem like you're not even remotely interested in being objective. Either that or you've led a pleasantly sheltered life and never known anyone that carries a gun or a flashlight.

Of course he was. Little Hero Complex cop-wannabes always carry such tools.

You missed my point. He stops the car...****, he's running...he's out of the car..flashlight and gun in hand. That suggests he had both the gun and the flashlight on him the whole time. And yes, that's not normal where I come from, if you are going grocery shopping. By the way, why didnt Shellie help with the shopping?

You are correct, the ding continues until he closes the door, so it has to have been his lights.

I didn't suggest he rushed things, I do that with my lights on purpose if I am in a situation where I want light for an extended period of time.

But again, the evidence is consistent with the manual: He grabbed his keys, left the lights on for light, exited the car with his gun and flashlight.

I do concede to that point.

I don't know, would it be that unusual for him to keep the flashlight in his center console or on his passenger seat? I don't see how that's relavent.

You have evidence that his gun was in his hands? He says he carries the gun to Walmart all the time. When I asked early on in this, if carriers carry their guns often, I believe I got a few yes'. And I am sorry, how is he going to the store instead of his wife unusual?

I think anyone who has ever actually *had* a car can grasp the concept of keeping a flashlight in it that is easy to grab.

Looks like full circle. I expect that 'Dee Dee heard the shots' will be coming back around any minute now.

There is something deliciously wonderful about the guy who considers himself so intolerant of racism, and says that by the time he was 22 he would never make statements that could be construed as racist, unintentionally making such a blatantly sexist comment. Why didn't Shelly help him with with the shopping, that thar is woman's work! :p

1. By "in hand", I meant "on his person. That wasn't well worded.
2. I meant, why didn't they go together? Going together seems like shopping, while going alone, carrying his gun and flashlight sounds like the Target trip was made up to hide the fact that he was on one of his "patrols.

Only if you deliberately misconstrue what I was trying to say. If that gives you the warm and fuzzies, have at it.

How did I misconstrue it? It doesn't even make sense to ask why Shelly didn't go unless you think that men don't go shopping by themselves. But I get it. If his wife had been with him it would prove he was really shopping . Except it wouldn't because then you'd be making up elaborate theories about how they were patrolling together. And when they got caught misleading the court on bond you'd say "aha, I told you she was involved, they're criminal cohorts!".

Now that I think about this, hmm....maybe she was with him! I bet he chased TM from one side and she chased him from the other!

I do concede to that point.

Thanks for this part. Just to complete the thought here, if the lights being on were because he exited the car with the auto-light still on, the headlights would have shut off after 15 seconds, according to the manual.

That means that if he were walking at the normal speed he demonstrated in the walkthrough, they lights would have shut off around the same time as he reached the first house. He would have been walking toward the T for the first time in the dark. This is why it contradicts what he later said about staying on RVC because of the lack of light. This is why the police brought it up to him. Why go into the dark in one direction, but not the other, all things being equal? Especially since he says Trayvon was gone and he wrote him off as having gotten away?

You raised a good point that maybe his headlights lit the way on the first pass, but I think we've shown that this isn't possible (unless he was running) since the headlight timer only waits 15 seconds before turning off. Now if he was running, it actually supports your theory but undercuts his story. He said he never ran and it was only the wind. But if he was running, it would explain how he got to the other side, the lights went off, and then he was concerned about walking back in the dark. But running after Trayvon is an obvious problem for him, right?

Fair enough.

My fiance and I are both going to school. If he has a particulary rough week with assignments, I do the shopping. If I have a particularly rough week of assignment, he does the shopping. If we have time, we go together. About the gun thing, people don't get carrier permits so they can leave their gun at home. It may not be the same where you are from but it's not all that uncommon for carriers to not leave home without it.

I have a flashlight in my car, in case of emergencies. It was the little dinky think I used at the end of the first video. I hate it and keep telling myself to get a real flashlight that actually lights up more than a mosquito but just can't seem to remember it when I am in a place that sells real flashlights. I see nothing odd about having a flashlight ready. I used to keep it in the emergency kit but it really sucks when you get a flat, at night, and you have to fumble for the emergency kit, just to get some decent light.
