German court bans circumcision of young boys

That's right. Children do not get to choose what they eat, where they live, where they go to school, or what it says on their birth certificate. They also do not get to make their own medical decisions.

But if the parents make decisions that end in the child losing body parts, you can bet your ass the government will intervene. That's not among the 'freedoms' that parents have.

Well, except in one instance...

Still waiting for the straight answer to "should parents be allowed to sexually molest their children if that's how they choose to raise them?".

Well, when you rub a circumcised wienie with a warm wet cloth...

If you care at all about being taken seriously, you might want to stop creating absurd analogies. Bathing is not sexual molestation. Stop pretending it is, and come back to reality.

So you boys DON'T stiffen up when rubbed with a warm wet cloth? Interesting.

Saying that the washing of a child is molestation in order to force us to say "of course not", after which you can say "then circumcision is not mutilation" is just too childish.

Yes, I just spelt it out for you. We're not idiots.

I'm not pretending anything. I spelled it out in post #479. I know they're both lies, and I know why.

Seriously, when pornography stops featuring circumcised penises, I'll start wondering whether people see them as "mutilated". Until then, you're the one who's detached from reality, my friend.

Which is why, around these parts, that "mutilation" nonsense just sounds ridiculous.

You know, if you don't like the word "mutilation" (as accurate as it is) go ahead and appropriate or create whatever polite euphemism you like, I don't care.

This is about babies being subjected to permanent body modification at the whim of the parents for no reason other than religion or cultural pressure. It's wrong. I don't care if you like your damn penis, the baby doesn't have a *********** choice.

Stop playing word games and address the core issue. You're starting to sound like a child. "You used the wrong word! Your entire argument must be wrong!"

If you think it's accurate, just keep using it as your alpha and omega. I (or one of my minions) will be standing right there with a big old smirk on my face saying "Does this look mutilated to you?"

[sigh] Yep, evasion, like I expected. Bye. Tell your friends under the bridge I said hello.

Oh, you mean my tonsils?

My wisdom teeth, maybe?

That "extra" bit of tissue in my nose that they burnt out with a hot wire? "Cauterized" I think they called it.

You've convinced me. Medical procedures are certainly exactly the same as an outdated religious practice usually done for aesthetic or social reasons. No difference whatsoever.

And while saying that, you open your raincoat to reveal you're not wearing anything under it?

zeggman, please stop claiming to speak for all Americans. I am an American, and referring to circumcision as a form of mutilation does not sound silly to me. It sounds, in fact, like we are finally waking up to the error of our ways. Just because something was once acceptable doesn't mean it should always be - unless there is a viable reason that is a bit more persuasive than "Well, I like my circumcised penis."

You really have no way of knowing whether any given person has "a viable reason" or not unless you have a conversation about it.

If you're calling cauterized noses and snipped tonsils and extracted wisdom teeth "a form of mutilation" too, at least you're being consistent. Are you? Evidence?

If I look mutilated to you, you have different standards than anyone who's ever seen me, but that's okay. I might not think you look like much either.

*eyeroll*

Drama, drama, silly little jab, drama. I said nothing about the aesthetics of circumcised penis. The term 'mutilation' doesn't care if the end result is pretty or not.

Except that those tonsils are snipped and those wisdom teeth extracted for valid medical reasons. Circumcision, in the vast majority of cases, not. All those medical "reasons" - debunked though they are - are really only attempts at post-hoc justification.
