To some of us, that's actually true..
I've met many young girls who thought some sort of lubrication was required for boys to masturbate, because it's often referred to in American movies. They're surprised that this doesn't apply to Norwegian boys, and that they can just grab it and have their fun without any form of preparation..
I'm a bit concerned as to his definition of "met" and "young".

What a bunch of hypocrites. The legal situation is not at all unclear for the majority of their circumcisions and that regional court ruling doesn't directly affect them anyway. Nice publicity stunt. They already got the foreign minister to twitter apologies for the ruling ...

PTS what i like to call Privileged Twit ( if i am being nice.) Syndrome.
Noticed it all the time working for a phone company. If you let someone have something they shouldn't ( in this case the legally protected right to chop off part of someone's wedding tackle, in the phone service industry, it was mostly promotions that through a glitch never got taken off of an account, or computer errors leading to stupidly low billing.) they are ten times more nasty and angry about it being taken away than the gent who gets something legitimate taken away ( A feature is dropped from a plan for some reason.).
I believe the cause is that these folks know they are getting away with something, and feel superior due to being able to do so. Once the error is corrected, they go off the rails in anger because now they don't feel they have that power.
Well, as I said, I fully expect there to be some legislative movement at some point. Whether they follow through remains to be seen.
Well, in view of their past treatment of Jews, those *******Tschermans (I being one of them, but by birth only) will not want to step on their religious 'toes' and they certainly don't want to offend those *******Muslims either!
I despise all religions, and these genital mutilations,which have been given 'taboo status' for hundreds/thousands of years under/behind the shield of religious practices, add to my disgust at them.

So I just clicked on the tag and noticed that there are a number of threads on this forum on this issue!
Religion aside, as an atheist with a wife of basically no fixed religion, and as a circumcised man who just this spring had both of his baby boys circumcised (incidentally, I sat in on the procedure for both of the little guys)... can someone outline the essential problem to me? One of the deciding factors for me was that if they just get it done now, it's over and won't be an issue.
On the other side, I'm starting to get worried that as they grow up into the world people are going to start going around, making it an issue! We ran into a guy putting on a one-man show about his penis and circumcision. What was clear to us? He had bigger issues than his circumcision...

But the question is, how could it ever be an issue? It's perfectly healthy skin that performs a few distinct functions. It's not necessary, but we don't just remove everything that isn't necessary.

How could it? I don't know initially, but there are all sorts of "weights" on the decision. If you're not religious, there's still cultural, there's still cosmetic ("just like dad"), etc.
To my knowledge, there's never been a similarly widespread practice for the appendix.
(As an aside, and in the interest of full disclosure... on an emotional level, speaking as one of two parents who spent a lot of time thinking and grappling with the decision, I have to say that I somewhat resent being compared to an abuser. Having "settled" the issue, I don't need some disgruntled person coming along and throwing it in their face now later in life.)

What problem should there be that needs to get corrected sooner or later? A healthy, normal penis? Oh the horror! Can't have that!
Because it IS a *********** issue! People amputating healthy parts of children, mutilating them.

Where I come from, nobody circumcises boys unless for religious reasons. I don't know what proportion that is but it has to be less than 10%. Everybody else is fine, by and large. There simply are not long queues of men with preputial problems needing them sorted out by adult circumcision. It's simply not an issue. Yes, maybe one or two, but I guess there are also one or two men with problems caused by someone messing with their anatomy when they were tiny babies.
This reminds me of the controversy over docking dogs' tails. It's fashion, basically. Cue howls of outrage from dog breeders and some vets about all the terrible tail injuries that will occur if dogs are allowed to keep their tails. Except - lots of breeds were never docked, and tail injuries aren't that common. The breed most prone to tail injury (due to the anatomy) is the greyhound, and some do get injuries, but greyhounds have never been routinely docked.
We've decided that chopping puppies' tails off just on the off-chance that one or two of them might injure their tails later is unjustifiable. Maybe when US society gets that far, you'll also consider that chopping bits off baby boys just on the off-chance that one or two of them might develop an issue in later life is equally unjustifiable.

I think catsmate1 got it mostly right. I would probably quibble slightly on the 'no benefits' because I think that this is a question for an individual and their specific context. I'd probably change that to non-therapuetic but the long and short of it is that for an infant or child there is simply no reason for circumcision for the large majority of individual boys.
It's no more an issue then wondering if you'll have to pull teeth or perform any other type of therapeutic procedure on them. Some small number may need circumcision later in life but that number is very small, just like some small number need an appendix or tonsils removed.
Well, that's already happened, it's already an issue. And it's unreasonable to not push for change because it's going to make some people uncomfortable. To be quite honest I hope that by the time your sons have sons, it would be difficult for most to even find someone willing to circumcise a child for non-therapuetic reasons.
