Merged Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth - (Part 2)

My opinion is that he was not filled with the Holy Spirit. Christ said I will send the Holy Spirit who will teach you all things. Bart Ehrman in my opinion is trying to get all knowledge strictly from his interpretation of what is written in the New Testament. Christ never said I will send a book called the bible which will teach you all things, he said I will send the Holy Spirit who will teach you all things.

So you agree there is no evidence that the New Testament writers told the truth?

It's not often I swear out loud when reading a book, but when I read Ehrman claim that Jesus must have existed because nobody would make up such a character, and the inclusion in the NT of "difficult sayings" and "uncomplimentary" anecdotes meant it must be true...

but that the resurrection was invented because Jesus' followers didn't want him to be dead, so came up with a story by which he wasn't.

I've given at least 3 page numbers of some of Ehrman's quotes.

Is your memory that bad that you don't remember reading what Agatha referred to? You have read the book in the last couple of days, haven't you?

There is plenty evidence as I show in my 2100+ posts in part 1 and 2 of this thread. They told the truth but but not all the truth, which can be inferred by Christ who said I will send the Holy Spirit who will teach you all things. Christ didn't tell the apostles everything. We know this when he said there are some things you can't bear yet.

Actually I haven't but I do have access to the book, so Agatha should give page numbers like I did. She said she has read the entire book but she might not have it and is just saying things from memory.

No, there isn't, as you would know if you'd bothered to read and understand the replies to the nonsense you've persisted in posting repeatedly.

Still not got the hang of imply/infer, yet, I see. We also have no evidence, outside the New Testament, that Jesus said any of that.

So, how are you coming along with reading Ehrman's book?

If you have access to the book, why don't you just sit down and read it? Then you might have a clue what you're talking about.

I already know the historical evidence for Christ is there so I don't need to read most of the book which deals with that. And I don't agree with his conclusion. I have no desire to read much more but I would like to see the page #'s of what Agatha was talking about.

If she doesn't give the page numbers then I believe she was just talking from memory, and probably doesn't have the book anymore.

So why did you bring up the book in the first place? And if you know the historical evidence is there, why don't you present it here? We haven't seen it yet.

At least she had the book then. You don't. And you have read only 30%, so how can you judge?

So at which university does the Holy Spirit teach?

But what is in the Bible is true, isn't it - according to you - and God-inspired? See also 2 Timothy 3:16.

So how is it with Jesus' birth date? During Herod the Great's reign (Matthew) or after Judea was incorporated into the Roman province Syria (Luke)?

And what was that 3 hours darkness during the crucifixion?

Oh DOC, why don't you take a couple of these questions to your pastor? Print out the pages of this thread and take them with you to church. (You do go to church, don't you?)

They told the truth but but not all the truth, which can be inferred by Christ who said I will send the Holy Spirit who will teach you all things. Christ didn't tell the apostles everything. We know this when he said there are some things you can't bear yet.

Now you're just spouting dogma.

It will assuage believers and have zero effect on non-believers.

So what's the point?

YES!!! Thanks DOC, I knew you wouldn't let me down.

DOC, you are trying to use the book as evidence for the existence of a historical Jesus. The parts of the book that deal with that are therefore precisely the parts of the book that you need to have read to find out whether your use of it in this way is justified.

And I don't agree with his conclusion. I have no desire to read much more but I would like to see the page #'s of what Agatha was talking about.

And this is a major problem with your entire approach. You disagree with his conclusions, and you refuse to look at the reasoning by which he reached those conclusions. This is called confirmation bias, and the extreme and wilful form of it you exhibit makes it impossible for you to correct your mistakes.

If she doesn't give the page numbers then I believe she was just talking from memory, and probably doesn't have the book anymore.

If you don't give the page numbers, I will have reason to believe that you have never had the book yourself.

I see. So in the real world, there isn't sufficient evidence for Jesus' divinity.
One must have a magical entity come and convince them.
