Pretty sure I'll be sending off my first ALP membership payment soon.

I'm all growed up.

I was also surfing through all of Keating's stuff yesterday. :D Very good on the mic, that bloke.

My favorite moment was this, although I don't think there's a video of it:

Turnbull, it seemed, had suffered an even more serious memory lapse.

Asked on radio to name his favourite footy team, he had fluffed his lines most grievously in this grand final week.

"Well, I have to confess I support in Australian rules the Roosters, who of course aren't in the grand final," Turnbull had responded. The Roosters aren't in Australian rules, either, and Swan made a feast of the blooper. The House of Representatives was in uproar, and Turnbull's fixed smile was at least as ghastly as Bishop's.

...

Burly rugby player Joe Hockey came to Turnbull's rescue, rising to declare: "There's only one rooster in this chamber."

It almost makes one wish that there was a rule forbidding anybody wanting to be a politician from ever holding public office.

Maybe we should just make them do an exam or something first, to at least show that they have a modicum of intelligence and ethics. Don't pass the exam? Not good enough to help run the country.

Meanwhile, Gillard and Abbott try to outdo each other on ways to annoy the electorate and disenfranchise the public... Gillard lacks control, and Abbott lacks clarity.

Apart from that, business as usual. I've seen the government and opposition throwing balls of paper at each other across the floor prior to the Speaker arriving. I've also seen attack ships and c-beams, but that's another story...

They just need to work in a real job first. Understand what it is like to work your arse off to pay for house, bills, send kids to school, etc. It's too easy to live off the public purse

Went to see question time today. Their behaviour was disgusting. There was hardly a question answered by the government which was not interrupted, maybe several times by the opposition. The level of "noise" (speakers choice of word) was loud and almost continuous. Something needs to be done to improve the standard of behaviour.

Edit. The government kept on attacking the opposition. The opposition kept on asking hostile questions. Both of these are disgusting behaviours.

Has Question Time ever been different? It's theatre. Opposition questions are never answered. I'm surprised you are surprised.

Oh, I missed Question Time today. I should go watch it now. Did Abbott try for a Censure Motion again? I love when he does that stupid crap.

Errm....Worst government ever!

Slut!

Something nonsensical about broadband!

Mining is most of the Aussie economy!

No, no motions to suspend standing orders. It was a more normal QT. I think the opposition realise they are flogging a dead horse, and I'm now more convinced than ever that Thompson will be vindicated. Abbott has been a big time loser in this session. The bolt for the door will haunt him. I doubt he will lead the coalition to the next election.

Baha! Hijabs! This isn't Australistan! I'm been serious!

Me too. I've doubted he'll be there for the past few months. They need bloody Turnbull there. Freaking Gretch.

Summed it up. :o

I love the "mining is Australia" meme. Yes, a very important export earner, but the much maligned manufacturing sector employs ten times the mining sector.

As time goes on I see Gillard judged as a politician rather than a woman. I think she can give it a real crack next election. After all, our economy is the envy of much of the world. We survived the GFC without a recession. Abbott's policy vacuum will tell.

And I should add that I haven't always voted Labor.

Why?

It's almost like they're adversaries or something.

Both of these are disgusting behaviours.

It's a show, rjh. They all go and have a few beers together when the cameras are off and the punters have gone home.

The set top box fiasco, the licking of the loony Greens bums, the giving out $900.00 to people so they could buy Chinese made TV's, spending the Howard government piggy box they built up since the last disastrous spending spree of over 40 billion dollars . . .

The parties know how to party. I've read about John Howard singing the Internationale with Labor heavyweights after a parliamentary session. It's a show, as you accurately say, and the show serves the nation well. Tell me, who would contemplate leaving the country if an certain party wins or loses?
