Don't MEST with Tron Javolta.

Who the **** cares?

It's nobody's business what someone's sexual orientation is...

I'm makin' it my business. Cause, you know... if he's gay, I might have a shot.

I would also like to know if Tom Cruise is gay.

But that second one is just because of the delightful hypocrisy of them being Scientologists and LRon's anti-gay stance. Remember, these guys wouldn't be just any old gays, but Scientology gays. That counts as mockable in my book.

If they weren't Scientologists, I wouldn't care. Take Kevin Spacey, him I don't care one way or the other.

Thanks, that was interesting. My sense of this is that when somebody appears to be gay (I don't profess gaydar, but I do have some thoughts on what some of the signs are) they are making an effort (perhaps an unconscious one) to let people around them know they are gay.

FWIW, I had no idea that Rock Hudson was gay. Can you use your gaydar on some of the longstanding public cases? How about Randolph Scott? There is not a single molecule in my mind that I am aware of that suggests he was gay by his actions or appearance but there have been longstanding claims perhaps based on the fact that he was a long time of room mate of Cary Grant.

I might have dated myself with the Randolph Scott question please feel free to laugh at me for bringing up an actor that maybe only old people have heard of.

I'd be curious about Tom Cruise also, alas I don't have marplots' ability to rise above all this but I was interested to know that Kevin Spacey was gay. I didn't know that, but it didn't surprise me. For whatever reason, he seems a little too thoughtful and not quite stupid enough to be a male heterosexual. I notice he's bald. Maybe I was thrown off by that. Perhaps my generalization that there are no bald homosexuals wasn't completely true.

I've never thought Tom was gay, he's scorchingly hetero imo,
I first became aware of Spacey in "the usual suspects", my very first thought, who's that cock whore?
:D
Randolph Scott, don't know him, he's not well known in the UK
but recently the following thoughts
Taylor Lautner, screaming queen
Tom Hardy goes both ways like Johnny Depp who gets more hetero as he gets older, I blame sobriety for the former and Vanessa Paradis and children for the latter
Michael Keaton is extremely repressed
:p

From the link
Gay men have better gaydar than straight men
I would posit that Pansexuals have better Gaydar than anyone

Heterosexuals don't need Gaydar as they have a target rich environment
Homosexuals tend to attend homosexual venues and events to find partners so have lots of practice at identifying the similarly sexual only
Pansexuals don't have either of those advantages, and when you're sexual choice is personality based and gender blind it pays to be good at it
probably about 40% of my friends thesedays are non hetero, the rest are open minded,
sometimes forcibly
:D

When I first came out as non hetero to my friends years ago, not one of them was surprised, their gaydar must have been working because I had thought I was skillfully imitating a "red blooded" heterosexual, but apparently I hadn't fooled anyone, yet they all said they had a "suspicion" but couldn't put their finger on its source,
my on off boyfriend at the time was the only one with a definitive answer, he said it was the way I screwed him that gave it away
:D:D

Sigh, I am afraid he's long dead and probably not known by anybody that's much younger than I am. He was a major motion picture actor in his day but probably never quite rose to first tier.

Wikipedia has a whole section on his sexual orientation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randolph_Scott#Sexual_orientation), which could basically be summarized as some say yes and some say no. Richard Blackwell claimed that he had affairs with both Scott and Cary Grant. Publicly Blackwell seemed like an annoying little twit to me and it's hard for me to imagine him having sex with anyone.

Or could they simply be following the same path as Christopher Hitchens, who said he could only remain actively bisexual until he lost his youthful good looks, at which point he could no longer get men to sleep with him, and switched to only sleeping with women out of necessity?

I don't think so, because as men get older they don't lose their homosexual je ne sais quoi the way they think they will, maybe young Hitchens just liked older men, after time that becomes untenable, unless you have a Max Von Sydow fixation
:D

.
Randy never came across in any of his movies as anything but a straight-shooting good guy. Rode off into the sunset with the thanks of the villagers, but not the mayor's nubile daughter, if memory serves.
I can't recall any rumors at all about him.
Rock Hudson though, was outed while he was acting.

I went to UCLA and there were various rumors that went around about which actors were gay. I have no memory of the specifics since they were of no interest to me at the time but I was surprised that rumors seemed to be able to cross the huge divide between a bunch of mostly middle class students and the enormously wealthy people that lived just to the north of us.

As to Rock Hudson: I had not the slightest clue. I guess my gaydar was not functioning at the time if it ever does. As to Randolph "Randy" Scott: It was nice to see that there is at least a few people in this forum that are old enough to remember him.

On a slightly different topic: My wife and I watched the silent version of Ben Hur a year ago or so. The movie starred Ramon Novarro as Ben-Hur and we were both surprised by the portrayal. Novarro played him, by modern standards, as a completely gay fellow. We weren't sure what was going on. Were modern ideas about what gay behavior was like changed so much and this kind of behavior wouldn't have been seen as gay when the the movie was made in 1927? It seems like the director would have had to have been on it. What were his intentions with regard to this. It turns out that Roman Novarro was completely gay. Was he trying to portray that as some sort of way of coming out or making a pro-gay statement. There is a sad ending to the Roman Novarro story. He was beaten to death in his home by a bunch of thugs that tried to get him to tell them where he kept that non-existent money that was supposedly hidden in his house.

There's also a scene where a large group of topless women go marching through the streets. We were surprised by that also.

Randy was in a perfectly movie at the beginning of WWII, staged in Britain, ...Something to do with the RAF, and Randy's involvement with some English society maiden.
Pronounced her name with accent on the 'bor', unlike the actual way we say it...
"Deborah".
Which is the only thing I remember about it at all. :)
