Fully Armed U.S. Troops Patrol Minnesota

I wonder what they would do if they saw some of the training that occurs outside of Norfolk, or Mayport (FL) or San Diego, or even here in my local town.......We're CONSTANTLY hearing planes, helicopters, and various fighter jets fly over our city..........

:boxedin:

When I was sitting in the terminal building of the Ft. Wayne, IN, airport, coming home from a visit to my parents, in the early morning hours, the Indiana Air National Guard scrambled a patrol of F-16 fighters off the runway. I bet that had to have the local conspiracy nuts running for their tin-foil hats.

Meh. Either Info Wars or Prison Planet played this "armed soldiers patrolling the streets of a small town" card before, years ago. I tried digging it up, but didn't find it after a quick search, and I'm not going to waste my lunch trying to find it.

Besides, given the large amount of legally owned firearms in the US, I would hope that any soldiers attempting to oppress the population would be fully armed.

--------- The Coast Guard is a wholly separate branch of the military under the Department of the Navy that does not play any role, active or passive, in the United States's global presence.

In addition to what a couple of others have posted about the USCG, they are currently active in the Gulf region, and were involved in the first Gulf war also.

Also, most people don't know that Coasties and their ships served in Vietnam, and had a large presence in WWII. The larger CG frigates were often used as convoy escorts in the North Atlantic, and a lot of the gun crews on armed merchant vessels were Coast Guard personnel. I work with a fellow who is former CG. He was stationed in Spain for two years at a shore facility.

Very true. Many MSD (Marine Safety Detachments) were overseas.

But, the vast majority of them, do not.

Hell, not even training. I did a harbor tour in San Diego a couple of times, and when you're passing by the various Naval Establishments, they have patrol boats armed with mounted machine guns buzz past you to make sure the boat operators don't try anything fishy.

Here locally, we have a USCG station right at the cruise port at Port Canaveral.

I wonder what they would do if they saw this every time a cruise ship went out.....

Yepo! Cruise ship escorts. Every single time.

Pretty badass gun too. .50 cal IIRC.

There were some harbour patrol guys when I took my cruise out of Miami last year. I don't think they were (obviously) armed, but they pretty clearly knew they were part of the show. High speed passes with completely unnecessary jumps off waves and rooster tail turns....:D

ETA: Actually, I think that's an M249.

There were three men in uniform tossing around some kind of disc in a local park on sunday. Obviously, my town is on the target list of the illuminati
Tossing a disc? As in a Flying Saucer? They must be on TAD from Area 51!
Dude, you're doomed.

GLP is especially known for getting excited over this stuff - they had a 20+ page thread with people threatening to take down the MAN and put on their rambo outfits in response to this "story."

I really think when it comes down to it the government just cannot win. It reminds me of the FEMA camp hysteria/paranoia. FEMA management of Katrina was a disaster in part because they did not have temporary shelters to house the numbers of people needed in a safe and humane way (thus the whole superdome ordeal). In response, FEMA begins to plan to make temporary camps to house disaster victims to provide for them in future disasters and the CT community warps and twists it into concentration camp planning. Instead of applauding FEMA for learning from its errors, the CT kooks are convinced they are planing to round them up and put them in camps for being paranoid idiots.

Likewise, the US military is demonstrating it has learned from its fatal mistakes of not focusing training on urban warfare which caused far more causalities than needed in Iraq and Afganistan. Instead of building mock towns at a cost of millions of dollars, they can train in a backwoods in the middle of no where town for free - this should be a win/win/win for the military (good training)/government (learns from its mistakes)/taxpayers (low comparative cost). But nope, cue the paranoid CT hysterics instead.

British Army has it's own town to patrol and fight in complete with sewers and tunnels, houses, school, office blocks and shops and added more recently a 'Shanty Town' It's built in a 'central european' architectural style.

The Marines had a similar setup on the old El Toro Marine Air Station.

It's a 240 - 7.62 - U. S. nomenclature for the FN MAG-58

Yup, my parter's brother is currently stationed in Bahrain.

You're right, just spoke to a friend of mine at that specific station. It's an M249. The cutters stationed there have .50 cal and a 20mm cannon.

And yes, an impressive show for certain.

Sorry guys, as I stated earlier, it's the M240:
