Just because I haven't responded is no reason to think I feel you've all beaten me. In fact right now I'm asking myself "Where do we get these people!!??".
People buy astrology, homeopathy, bioresonance, alt. medicine, quacky diets, energetic crystals, "detoxification" teas or diet supplements. They also buy creationism, hard-core ideologies, racist pseudoanthropology, conspiracy theories (every flavor - Jews, Masonry, NWO & UFO), dialectical materialism, religious stories and many prejudices.
There is huge supply for growing demand on those kind of stories and beliefs. Why bad science, perpetuum mobile, cold fusion or water as fuel beliefs shouldn't be this way? There was a high-grade academic discussion based on evidence, theory and methods in early 90s, cold fusion claims were not verified. Case closed until new evidence will prove the claim, nothing happenned. And there won't happen since it would need to remove laws of physics from the molecular level. If a low temperature fusion was obtainable, then it would be very popular in nature (making the elements very unstable), and would be discovered in 19th century.
Rejecting claims always will lead to some religious zealotry on the subject, hope is fed, the soil has been prepared, more frauds are coming. The same story over and over again, but under disguise - new age bigotry, quantum mysticism or utopian technobabble.
