Five Titanic myths spread by films

Ah, sad to see that the band really didn't play "Nearer my god to thee". A magic moment in the movie.

"God himself could not sink this ship" I recall from Walter Lord's book, A Night to Remember which up until the discovery in the 80s, was pretty much the definitive work on the sinking. I had that book re-issued from the library constantly.

Claims it was unsinkable were about at the time:

Lord easily demolishes Howard's claim by noting that in mid-1911, nearly a year before the Titanic's maiden voyage, publications such as the Irish News and Belfast Morning News and Shipbuilder printed detailed articles about the ship's construction and noted that "The Captain may, by simply moving an electric switch, instantly close the doors throughout and make the vessel practically unsinkable."

I don't think the article conclusively proves that the band didn't play the hymn. How on earth could they do so?

"Contrary to the popular interpretation the White Star Line never made any substantive claims that the Titanic was unsinkable - and nobody really talked about the ship's unsinkability until after the event, argues Howells."

More at the link.

Note the weasel words "substantive" and "really". But even these hedging modifiers are pointless because we have an actual quote from the VP of Whitestar, who said of the Titanic on April 15, 1912: "We believe that the boat is unsinkable." (see http://www.snopes.com/history/titanic/unsinkable.asp)

[somewhat offtopic]
Does anyone else find the amount of Titanic 'memorabilia' being hawed somewhat tacky?

Thats nothing, there is a popular myth going around the crank section of the Universe that Jesuits somehow sunk the Titanic

And not one single mention of the truth behind the sinking... the 497 and 1/2 feet of rope.

Who cares about the stupid ship and dead people.
The magic of the Titanic has always been the make believe love story done to a Celine Dion song.

The rest is just boring junk.
I'll bet they sunk themselves so they could give James Cameron a good backdrop for the beautiful story of Jack and Rose.

You people need to get your facts right!

You sheeple actually believe that the Titanic sank?

The Titanic was a mock-up built around a much smaller ship, built by the gov't with the intent of sinking it in order to distract people from the abuses taking place in their government at the time. Nobody died, they were all stooges placed there by the gov't. The 'survivors' got money for the 'ordeal' they went through, while the 'victims' were relocated to Australia and given new lives.

James Cameron's ancestors were part of the conspiracy, and his movie is just his contribution to keep the lie alive (and make tons of money from it). He was actually a consultant on the 9/11 plane attacks, which were all modeled on the Titanic disaster, again using fake planes and fake passengers.

When will you people open your eyes to the truth!!?!

I see nobody's yet mentioned the false flag giveaway: the Evening Sun newspaper headline "All Saved From Titanic After Collision" which has obvious parallels with the BBC reporting the collapse of WTC7 before it happened...

don't say things like that as if we have a clue what you're talking about.

I think he's referring to that twat Brockett who sings about a ship called the USS Titanic, he even called the song The Legend of the USS Titanic.

This thread is about the RMS Titanic.
