Some Folks Just Don't Get It...

Nothing irritates me more than seeing so called "liberals" who claim to have the open minded high ground, do nothing but belittle and besmirch the characters of their opposition in the same exact manner in which they claim the GOP does.

In other words, you only think people are good if you agree with them and your assertions of "closed mindedness" by the opposition is present in your own outlook as well.

If i were to say that "all liberals are filthy ,weak hippy retards who want to subvert the Govt and support terrorism and political correctness" you would take me to task for making such a ridiculous assertion. yet it seems perfectly fine on these boards to make just as wild an accusation against conservatives based on a few LOUD ones.

I identify as conservative. I am also an atheist, and social issues ,IMO shouldn't even be political issues. But I have an outlook very similar to the list of "conservative traits" posted above by BROWN.

I find it insulting and really lame that the best that the supposed "open minded" liberals can do is make generalizations and sterotypical attacks .

Are you saying that you are OK with the racist bumper sticker? I'm confused by your post. I don't know what being liberal or conservative has to do with being against racism.

I would complain about the bumper sticker if the president was a Republican too.

Could you identify the argument that prompted this?

Thank you. Yeah, point taken. I gotta admit, I think the GOP makes their opponents job a little too easy. I was just in a debate about voter ID laws that disenfranchise the poor and minorities. My detractors admitted that there was no evidence of voter fraud but declared quite simply that it's okay to harm lots of people to ensure no one votes illegally. That's cynical and has a way of garnering the perspective that the GOP doesn't give a damn about the rights of the poor and minorities. Add to that the casually admitted and blatant attack against women's reproductive rights, the way people at the GOP debates booed a gay service man, cheered killing people, cheering letting people die, it all adds up to not much caring about the disadvantaged and minorities.

I'm sorry but as unfair as it might be I don't have a lot of tears to shed. I know how you feel though. I'm still a Registered Republican but I'm glad I've otherwise dissociated myself from them.

While there are plenty of intelligent right wing republicans I know, your characterization of the LOUD ones seems to ignore that the candidates the republicans have running for president this year reflect the views of the LOUD ones. I think this has a lot to do with the unfairness you're seeing in how people mock the right. I think the guiding movement in the right has created an atmosphere where moderates appear as socialist liberals. I see no way to reason with this mindset.

Tell me about it. The GOP is no longer the big tent party but now actively attack their own members and many of their leaders. And yes, this does happen on the left also but nearly to the degree that it does on the right. Moderates on the right were even given a pejorative term. It's not a party that shows much tolerance for anything outside of the religious-right mindset.

I don't see Romney as a right wing extremist. I see him as pretty moderate actually.

I actually do too when it comes down to what he does, but the way he's tried to project an image that is intended to entice the loud ones makes him seem like he'll say anything to get elected. I don't think he brings anything to the table that's different than Obama, and I actually appreciate Obama more not being so generic. But that's beside the point. I agree with you that Romney is actually pretty moderate. But Perry, Santorum, Bachman, and Cain were all circus acts that warranted mockery of the highest caliber.

Well, as we all know, politicians tend to cater to any votes they can get in primaries. Though in general elections they have to cater to everyone without being too firmly positioned to the left or right. It's no surprise he's tried to entice some of the far right as he needs to win the primary to even get a chance at the general election.

I think ,barring any big revelations , that the election is going to be very very close. Like Bush/Gore close.
