My Representative Puts Foot In Mouth

Joe Walsh is still technically my Representative, even though with redistricting he won't be after this next election. His opponent will be Tammy Duckworth, a disabled Iraq war veteran. Now, he has been getting criticism for this section here:

“I have so much respect for what she did in the fact that she sacrificed her body for this country,” said Walsh, simultaneously lowering his voice as he leaned forward before pausing for dramatic effect. “Ehhh. Now let’s move on.”
“What else has she done? Female, wounded veteran … ehhh,” he continued. “She is nothing more than a handpicked Washington bureaucrat. David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel just picked her up and dropped her into this district.”

But I think the best line is a bit before that:

In many ways, I’m the challenger. I’m the guy who sleeps in my office, I’m the guy who goes at the establishment on both sides. Turned down my benefits. She’s been the one working in Washington. She’s a bureaucrat. I’m a fighter.

Everyone agrees we were redistricted so that the Democrats could squeeze him and a few of his colleagues out. But this is just sad.

Now ask yourselves, too, in this age of corporate largess being given license to run hog wild, how far can you trust a man not to take, perhaps even to seek bribes when he has at one recent time reported a negative net worth in excess of $300K? And this, I gather, is AFTER he had stiffed his ex-wife on child support.

Didn't you learn the truth when John Kerry ran against George Bush?

Kerry was a decorated war veteran. Bush was (at best) an AF national guardsman who avoided combat. Yet in the end, Kerry's service was held against him.

It is treated like normal legislation. With Democratic majorities and the House and Senate, they had Democratic controlled Redistricting Committees draft plans in secret, to then be voted on by the full House and Senate and signed by the Governor. Things get more complicated if things can't be agreed upon, but there was no danger. We had Republican and Latino legal challenges, but they were dismissed.

Walsh was first pushed into running against a fellow freshman Republican, but nobody was happy with that so he decided to run in the new Eighth District (We don't have residency restrictions).

So what we will see is a professional fundraiser who never really produced anything for a living, coming over from his old turf to pick on a woman who has achieved more in her life than he ever will just for partisan reasons.
