Rick Santorum attacks "science dogma"

"Good science education should prepare students to distinguish the data or testable theories of science from philosophical or religious claims that are made in the name of science;..."

Wow. What a clear and cogent argument why not to teach ID in the science classroom. Thank you, Rick.

Reminder: This man actually had a small chance of becoming president of the largest economy in the world.

I didn't get what you meant at first but after Googling I found this...

Is this video:

a) a joke
b) taken seriously by anyone

?
It was serious. Comfort no concedes that it proves no such thing and that he was being absurd. No one takes his claim seriously. BTW: There are some damn good parody and rebuttal videos out there. Along with Venomfangx (PCS) It was truly a high water mark for lampooning silly creationism on youtube.

Wow! Quite amazing given that at least two people were involved in that video. One would hope that if you got two or more people together and floated the banana idea about at least one of them would realize how daft it is.

On the other hand, there is a trivial point that the banana is a good example of evolution that isn't entirely through natural selection. Somehow I doubt that creationists are thinking of domestication, breeding, genetic modification etc... when they are talking about "teachin duh controversy" though.

Please tell me this is a joke.

That's what I said about the video. Sometimes you really have to check.

Really?.........Really? Thats insane!
Why surprised? The vast majority of humans are not atheists!

The mistake is letting Santorum frame the debate by linking evolution (a fight you're not gonna win) to AGW ( a debate which you can and are winning).

That I know but I guess I am mistaken in that at least half of this country is a little more liberal in their interpretation of creation.

Theres 0 debate in the scientific community regarding whether or not evolution happened. The fact theres such wide spread blatant ignorance of science doesnt bode well for the future of the US.

Which means what? You can still have faith and accept sound scientific theory. Even the Catholic Church supports teaching evolution and expanding universe theory.

Well, the masses will always be idiots. What bothers me is our supposedly wise elected officials pandering and even stoking the fires of this.

Exactly. Before domestication bananas looked very different and did not have the features Comfort credits "all mighty god" with designing. He has since conceded that fact.

Sure, but why would he call it dogma? It's like me complaining about Religious Confidence Intervals.

He's demented. To him, his idealogy is an unchallengeable truth, divine in its nature. To question it is obscene and the clade that questions it are dogmatic rabid scientists.

He's retarded in other words.

...and that's why things remain at a stalemate. Ever hear the axiom that you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar? You can't call the majority of Americans idiots but expect them to change their minds about their most foundational beliefs to match your way of thinking.
