There is, BTW, a problem with the scaling of the red lines as shown in the thread. I took a ruler and found discrepancies ranging from 1-2 mm in spacing with those lines.

i know they weren't perfect, they were done manually which is why in the video i said it wasnt definitively accurate and only a ballpark estimation and gave such a huge margin of error. i wish i would have used thinner lines as well. id like someone with better software than mine to check my work.

I've done the same thing with just Paint and working with Ray Wallace tracks and casts. I just keep a ruler handy. If you have Gimp you can use the measuring tool, which is convenient and easy. Here is an example of criticism your video got from the PGF fans...

Just to show you how inaccurate the method is, i'll do the exact same thing with his own example-

Suddenly he's only about 5' 3" tall - and that's standing upright with his leg in a straight locked position. He refers to this as being "scientific"?

roguefooter apparently cant add up the 6 12" markers = 72 inches or 6 feet...

@LogicFail, i do admit that the scale in that shot isnt perfect but RF's measurement of my foot isnt correct either, throwing his rebuttal off track as well.

i think there is a workaround though, instead of trying to measure to scale im just going to just cut, copy and paste the foot itself and let it give the measurement.

i cant post pics yet so here is a url to what im talking about.

yeah I noticed that after I posted.....oh well...

I did this very thing a few months ago on the BFF. I came to the conclusion of between 5'10 and 6'4

im coming up with pretty much the same information- 5'6"-8" in traveling posture and 6'-6'2" or so full standing height with a very generous 6" margin of error. 7'4" is way off imho.

Not to mention this old one from Kit confirming the hieght couldn't be even close to 7'4"

got the message Parn.

one other interesting measurement Ive been working on is how much closer to the camera my left foot is, in relation to my right calf.... believe it or not it is virtually negligible at this angle.

straight on from the rear the sole of my shoe is 17" closer to the camera. at 90 degrees (as if the camera is facing my right side) it is 14" further away from the camera. at the angle of the photo, the difference is only a matter of a couple inches (i honestly didnt expect that). i dont think this is significant enough of a difference to have a noticeable impact on the height estimation.

ill get some rulers and make a vid demonstrating my findings when i get a chance.

yes, the effect on the size would be the ratio of the distance from camera to foot, to the distance from camera to body.

eg hypothetically, if the foot is 990 inches from the camera, and the body is 1000 inches, then 990 inches/1000 inches = 99% ie the body would look smaller by about 1% in this case.

on a different note...

when we shot the Team Tazer Bigfoot video, there was scene where a guy was walking with wooden BF feet on in the back ground.

the tracks were later found by the son of a neighbor and posted almost immediately as real. the feet werent even something id halfway consider convincing but fooling people is easier than can be imagined apparently. theyve since been removed as we notified the people as to what they had found, but we could easily have let it ride if were of that sort.
