Automatically suspect because you, without evidence, suspect that the government did it. Pulitzer prize winning journalist? I think his delusions have it that al Qaeda was duped into doing it by the CIA or the Jews or whoever. He won't even attempt to provide evidence for this because he knows he can't yet he still believes it is a perfectly valid view because nobody can prove that the CIA didn't secretly dupe al Qaeda into doing it. Meaning, of course, that he is completely clueless on logic.

Not really all that curious. Innocent people are tried and convicted in courts of law all the time. We incarcerate, per capita, more people than any other country on earth, many of which are imprisoned for political non-crimes like "drug offenses".

This is to say nothing of our domestic police forces who torture, murder, entrap, and secure false confessions from innocent people.
