More Pat Robertson idiocy

Surely no more than 30 people have died due to Robertson's brand of bigotry.
 
Also, being part of the April tornadoes that struck Alabama last year, I can safely say that many victims prayed and their prayers fell on deaf ears. Pat Robertson is just an idiot and is patting himself on the back for his delusion.

God doesn't exist, prayers don't get answered.

As another resident of the Magic City who was also here during last April's devastation, I wholeheartedly agree with every single thing you've said.
 
Here in Central Florida, we didn't get it bad compared to some other parts of the country, but we did have a few homes damaged.

I was watching the local news, as they reported on one case where an older wood frame home was heavily damaged by the storm. The home was occupied at the time by a husband and his wife. The roof fell and actually pinned the wife down as the storm went by. The husband was able to get out of the way and was unharmed. The wife suffered some moderate injuries to her legs, but overall was rather lucky, as it could have been much worse.

Anyway, the news started interviewing the husband to get his reaction and the first thing out of his mouth was the fact they are good Christians and they believe that the Lord was with them the entire time. He went on to say that they are "saved' and they believe that the Lord takes care of his people. He said that if it wasn't for the Lord, they surely would have died in the storm.

My wife was watching this at the time with me, and she said, " I wonder where the Lord was before that roof caved in". I replied, "I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways; you would think that perhaps he would spare his flock this ordeal and direct his anger at the unbelievers".

Maybe God had another bet with Satan and was letting the evil dude do a Job-like test on the couple.
 
Sooner or later, I figured there was bound to be one thing I agreed with him on though, but I never thought it would be pot. He seems slightly less bigoted annoying than Franklin Graham or Falwell.

The issue you're replying to was a question of quantifying and comparing consequence, not an issue of whether there was consequence or not.

The Lord does indeed move in mysterious ways!

Not too long ago in the west and currently in most other places in the world.... people like Pat ARE causing loss of life and loved ones.


The choice not long ago would have been:
Burnt alive and your family deprived or shunned from the community with no hope of work or earning a living
or
Take your chances with a tornado​

And apathy towards people such as Pat may insidiously tip the balance back to their side.

It always gets up my nose when disaster survivors thank God for their deliverance. What about the rescuers who risked their lives to save yours, pal? Don't they deserve any thanks? And if their survival is down to God, surely He should also be blamed for the deaths of those who weren't so lucky?
