War with Iran is Inevitable

This would not be the first time Israel takes out nuclear facilities in an Arab country.

Someone writing about Mideast affairs and they think Iran's an Arab country. Brilliant.

Wouldn't Israel just drop the bomb and not leak it through gossip?

As this article was published on a US-based web site and quoted a US government official, it should be assumed to represent official policy.

You can find the word "always" in the dictionary.

So even pre-revolution? Back to the days of Xerxes?

Is that your out?

How, exactly, did you determine how Iran ranks its enemies relative to each other, Wildcat?

Did you conduct a poll? Were Iranians, back in (to pick entirely at random) 1984 saying "Why are we bothering with these Iraqis, when everyone knows that Israel is our #1 enemy?"

By where they're spending their resources. And from Day 1 of the revolution they've been arming, training, and funding terrorist groups to attack Israel.

War with Iran would not totally winnable. Less so than the mess that Bush the Lesser made in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We got rid of Daffy and Mubarak largelybecause their own poeple rose up. This was also true, to very limitd sense in Iran.

If the Iranian people are not ready for a regime change, we would be steppping into the quagmire.

Really? From 1980 to 1988, Iran devoted more of its resources against Israel than against any other nation?

Not the child soldiers they were sacrificing to Iraqi armament anyway.

If you're trying to back Wildcat up in his support for the assertion that "Iran has always viewed Israel as its No. 1 adversary", you're not doing a very good job.

I hope at least Europe will try to make some kind of stand against Israel if they try to pull off this craziness. Probably not though.

The original piece the "commentary" in the op comes from is here:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/02/02/panetta-concerned-israel-months-from-striking-iran/

There are no direct quotes from the Defense Secretary. Quotes come from "Washington Post columnist David Ignatius":

"Panetta believes there is a strong likelihood that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June.”

"I think the likelihood of an attack is high, and the timing seems about right," the former official said, but added that Panetta "may have interrupted and delayed the timing by his disclosure."

Also:

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates was asked Tuesday about getting into a new war, telling CNN’s John King, "If Iraq and Afghanistan has taught us anything in recent history, it is the unpredictability of war and that these things are easier to get into than to get out of."

He added, "This is, I think, one of the toughest foreign policy problems I have ever seen since entering the government 45 years ago."

If Europe won't take a stand against crazed ayahtollahs going nuclear, then how can you even hope for a European stand against Israel?

But you're in luck this time. The threat of an Israeli attack on Iran has apparently galvanized the Europeans. There is talk of putting more economic and isolation pressure on Iran.

Oh wait...that's not what you want at all, is it.

This Salon article:

Comments on a general feeling among Israelis that war is inevitable.....

"Israel’s whole body politic – politicians, media, influential public figures and public at large – is now leaning into a war with Iran. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s recently reported opinion that Israel would likely strike between April and June is shared, give or take a month or two, by countless others."

The highlighted claim seems to be unsubstantiated. The comment re Panetta the same.

I'd like to have quotes from 1. Israeli politicians and 2. Panetta.

Well first of all you should get your facts straight because that's wrong, and secondly a war with Iran is potentially disastrous for the world economy that's already hurting (which is one of the reasons why Obama probably will do everything to prevent it from happening).

Of course not, antagonizing and threatening the Iranians gives them only more reasons to develop nuclear weapons. Not to mention it's highly hypocritical considering all the other states that already have nuclear weapons, and that waging war and crippling economic sanctions are hugely disproportionate to the problem.
