Anyone wanna lay (snort!) odds on that happening loooong before Newt's moonbase?

What makes you so sure we don't have some sort of base there now?
Simply imagining something does not mean it can happen.
Well, off hand, I'd say because there is no credible evidence for such an idea.

THat is not true.
The same thing that makes me reasonably confident there's no such thing as the Loch Ness Monster.
You might want to check out the rest of the randi.org, Bill. I mean, apart from the forum.
Armstrong put a reflector there that we shoot lazers at to measure the distance to the moon. Let's call that a base. There you go.
Of course that is true....I can imagine a great many things that will never be true.
Re-read the post you quoted...to paraphrase, just because you can imagine it, doesn't mean it will someday be real.
You really have no "leg" to stand on with this argument.
THat is not true.
THe world is full of things that exist because people went against the established mass concept that they were impossible.
THe speed, the power ane the low cost of the computer you are sitting at right now is more than people would consider possible not long ago.
...and there you go...onto my ignore list..
Sheesh...
So give me an example of something that you can imagine that can never be true.
Give me an example. And there's an even longer list of things we can imagine that simply cannot happen. If you require this to be expounded upon, I direct you to the "Fantasy and Science Fiction" area of your local bookstore.
However, this is getting close to The Land of Off-Topic.
(I imagine this land to be an actual physical place, where pink wooly mammoths dance the tango with four-legged tangerines under an ever-flowing waterfall of Mello Yello.)
Ok, I wasn't going to get into this. But since you wavered briefly in your convictions....I was bored. I was kidding. Just posting that for the heck of it. Sorry.
What I was thinking was this. I think if we really really needed to and if it was a matter of survival for the species, we could probably put a moon base up there within months or weeks instead of years.
That lead me to post "what makes you think there isn't one there now".

Look, we are talking private enterprise moonbases here. They are likely to be very different than those stupid gubbermint schemes. We are talking vision, and stretching the human imagination through prizes. Now there is likely not prize needed for development of fembots. But just tell me this. Suppose the first moonbase had a dozen fembots operating it......Anyone wanna lay (snort!) odds on that happening loooong before Newt's moonbase?
And that's the argument I was fixing to make to Joe's blithe generalities. I think if he's going to claim that you can't have a moonbase in 8 years...
Looks like my comment about his claim stands on it's merits. Otherwise, Joe's definition of moonbase could be arbitrarily chosen to make his claim true, couldn't it?Joe is not claiming that. No one is. The argument is that Newt has not explained how it's going to get done outside of setting aside a big chunk of taxpayer money and crossing his fingers.
