Merged Whitney Houston dead

Fark headline: Whitney Houston beats Bobby Brown to death.

Sick, but I laughed.

A variant stolen from the always awesome - and horrifically wrong - headline writers over at the New York Post, who on the occasion of Ike Turner's death offered:

"Ike Beats Tina to Death"

Just went on YouTube to see if Whitney actually did anything that I really liked, and re-confirmed my personal opinion that she was my least favorite member of the family.

Aggravated but not surprised to see Cissy Houston now being relegated to merely being the mother of 'The Voice'.

Similar sentiment here. I admire her outstanding voice, but there's not one song I can bear to listen to, amongst her hits at least.

The wierdest part about this, to me is the following.

Was watching a Nick Cage move last night, and in thinking of actors that have died, wondered who would be the next, and had a few thoughts about how the world would change without certain actors/writers/etc's art.

Go on facebook after the film and find out Whitney died. Unfortunately i don't really see the music industry missing a beat ( besides the fact that her medocre pop songs will be played more now.) because of this.

Here, I'd like to help Mudcat and Complexity free up some time so they can go about the business of bettering the world, unlike these contemptable musicians who contribute nothing, with this succinct summation:

Summary said:
I don't know thing one about music. I don't even like music. But that won't stop me from using the opportunity of a person's death to proudly raise my ignorance up the nearest flagpole.

I've got a Whitney anecdote:

I dated a girl in the '80s who made me listen to Whitney Houston and Lionel Richie all the time. If it was schmaltzy pop for young lovers, she was into it. So I wasn't a fan per se, but I did have a Whitney cassette, and the girl really could sing.

One time, my roommate and I were horsing around with a microphone and amp. We put the amp in the window of our high rise dorm on a nice spring day, and I started broadcasting as the unseen "voice of God" to the students on campus. After a while, one guy yelled up to the sky "If you're really God, gimme Whitney Houston!"

I responded simply "As you wish, my son" and started blaring "Saving All My Love For You" through the amp. The young man was simultaneously delighted, and vexed.

All you people, leave Whitney alone! You're lucky she even performed for all you bastards. *sob* Leave Whitney alone! *sob* I mean it. Anyone who has a problem with Whitney, you deal with me. *sob* Because she's not alive right now! Leave her alone. *sob*

Thanks, laughed as well, with a slight cringe accompanying ...
If anyone is wondering whether Houston could sing
Never in question, from where I sit. Girl got pipes.
Love these kinds of jokes. Too bad people only die once.
Dracula may wish to have a word with you ...
True story: I happen to be visiting the city of Houston today. A friend texted me earlier this evening, "How's Houston?"

My reply: "Pretty dead tonight."
Well played.
:newlol I will always love you.
And only the good die young ... hey, how did Billy *********** Joel get into this thread?
This thread went to hell in a hand basket in very short order.
Given that it began with news of Houston, no surprise ... short drive ... Tricky's gonna get me for that, I am sure.
You're never too young to die of a cocaine overdose.
Or heroin. Friend of mine died at 19 of too much horse in the veins.

A friend just told me that they're planning a sequel to The Bodyguard, to be called The Bodybag.
*snort*

I was not a big fan, but I recall appreciating her songs when they came on the radio.

Man, that gal could sing. Pretty too.

Bad Company had a song about stuff like this, called Shooting Star.

Lucky, she lasted a bit longer than Johnny.

No, he has already emailed me as he got the news some other way.

We're not sure what the channels will want us to do - she may be seen as a relic from the past who can be covered in a news special on Monday when everyone gets back to the office. But we are looking into what material we can dig up in case they want us to go to town....

Dear god, that is such a sad statement.
