TTea Party Group Wants To 'Soften' Slavery In Textbooks

It becomes quite tiresome to get the "but it is only wrong by our standards, see the context" response when even people from the same group at the same time found slavery to be morally wrong.
That some were slaveowners is a historical fact which illustrates one important point: People are complex, both those you agree with and those you vehemently disagree with. That is one thing I wish young people to learn early on.

Agree 100%. This is precisely why the Founders' various attitudes towards slavery should be discussed, not glossed over. It's the difference between education and propaganda.

So no one is making that attribution that the founding fathers are evil slaveowners?
I admit to using the quote marks to indicate a quip that I made up, yes. No one here is doing such. In fact this discussion is quite reasonable.

Are you guys having a bad day or something?

That bolded part is also called "lying through one´s teeth", mhaze. Please tell me you know what´s wrong with you doing that.

It wasn't a quip. It was a position you attributed to others that you then countered with your own. That's a called a "straw man". Or as others have pointed out, "lying".

They started freedom for freedom's sake, and a government formed by the people, given certain, listed powers, and none others.

No, it didn't extend to everybody. Yes, it eventually did. It was a good start. They were better than the filth running every single other place on this dirthole back then. They still are better than most of the filth running half this dirthole right now.

Great. Sounds like the kind of context we should discuss with kids, then.

From what I have read elsewhere your precious founding fathers were landowners who would have lost land/money on a treaty with France and decided to start a revolution to counter it.

Apart from that your tea party seems pretty detached from reality.

Haven't heard that one, but even so, so what? They instituted a constitution where the people own their own things, not the government.

So what? Some of them still were slaveowners.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. People do good things, people do bad things. Nobody totally good, nobody is totally evil either. Neither whitewashing nor tarbrushing them shows a complete picture. And that is IMO what we should strive for (yes, I realize it is an ideal. That is why it is useful in the first place).

...except for the people owned by other people, I guess.

Exactly how does "everybody is equal, except for the people which those in power declare not to be equal" differ from any other "filth", as you call them, on this "dirthole"?

Really, I were not aware of any major change in property rights.
Anyway there is no reason to deityfy them.

Which produced a very interesting reaction in the local paper. Here's a snippet.

But when I went on their web site, all I could find was some Black Robe Regiment and not much more. :wackyhuh:
If I saw that Black Robe Regiment badge on an armed person in a riot, I would assume that the RaHoWa had started and think he was someone I had to shoot. Dog whistle white nationalist symbolism.

They are probably legals out to recruit useful idiots.

Gosh, that was clever. You are such a shining wit.

It set the framework by which those initially declared to not be equal could eventually obtain their equality by process of law rather than by an overthrow of the government or popular revolution. Of course the Southern aristocracy took exception and had to have the matter explained to them in terms that were easier for them to understand.
