What's so fantastic about Apple?

And neither did I say you'd said that.

So you found it ironic that Fast Eddie applauded Apple hardware then mentioned that some non Apple hardware had failed... And all because you have some non Apple hardware that hasn't failed.

OK, cool. ;)

Obviously, we need more andecdata.... send in your stories now. Extra points awarded for adjectives.

Joke alert

Imagine the outrage that would be expressed in this thread if Mac users actually gave a **** about what non Mac users thought about Macs. :D

I said adjectives, not pictures! +10 point for the self-absorbent children though. I have to clean up after mine...

So you mean my Windows tablet can't set icons on the desktop to one-click open whatever program I want to run? Nor can Android?

Must have missed that notice when I was setting up my Android and Windows tablets... ;)
No, that's not what I meant.

Hey, I use a mac!!!:D
Then I rest my case.

As a Mac user, you too are not bothered by what other people think of Macs as you clearly demonstrated by posting the anti-Apple picture gag. :D

We do seem to have the ability to not take it all too seriously... Here's one I prepared earlier.

I agree with you somewhat on this issue John, but you have that one completely wrong.

Consumer Reports does their own testing on almost everything. They basically never get their data from consumers.

When they occasionally get data from consumers it's only for things that require it, mostly health topics.
Partly correct. When Consumer Reports does a review, they very often print their testing results ALONG WITH the average reported consumer rating for balance.

Sometimes there's a difference between those numbers.

Yep,

I find these Mac/Pc threads like the my willy is larger than your willy threads.

What everyone seems to forget is:

My willy satisfies me and your willy satisfies you.

Leave my willy alone already.:D

When I am at work I use a Pc and when I am at home I use a Mac.

Best of both worlds

Well, Macs do fail, but I guess I have had good luck. I've owned nearly 20 Macs and only a couple have died. Some of my older ones have dim screens due to being used to send icecast streams 24/7, and my old 20" flat panel iMac developed an issue with its graphics chip overheating which was addressed with some fan control software. My Mac Plus has issues with its analog board, and I did the whole board repair drill on that twice. it still operates.

My view on this is simple. I've owned four macs in the past twelve years, an iMac, a G4, and two Mac Minis. Every last one of them has worked perfectly, and done what I need them to do for years...
I've also used seven PCs over the same period - five through work, and two laptops, by Toshiba, Dell, IBM, and HP. And every single one of them developed a major issue within tWo years...

To further "pluralize" the anecdotes...

...in the past 6 or 8 years I've owned 4 Windows laptops. I needed to in order to keep aviation databases up to date and to run a handful of aviation simulator software programs.

The first three were a Toshiba, an HP and a Fujitsu. None lasted three years. In each case, they failed to boot up some time in the second year, and the shops indicated "mother board" and $300+ repairs. Those repairs did not make sense, when for a couple hundred more I could get a newer, more powerful laptop, and sell the broken one on eBay for a significant amount.

The fourth is a $499 Sony Vaio and that one's working fine after a couple years - here's hoping.

Point is, overlapping that time period I also owned a white iBook which is still soldiering on. And my MacBook Pro which is my main computer.

Anyway, as to the optical drive in my Macbook Pro, if my position had been that Apple's never break, my position would have been weakened with my hard drive failure*. And you could call it ironic. But that was never my position, so its only ironic against some straw man.

*get ready for some special pleading...
We live on a dirt road. A neighbor has a plaque in her kitchen that reads, "Dust Is A Country Accent". I suspect the dust that gets on everything finds its way into my computers. For a while I could get the drive to work after a few passes with a CD cleaner disk. Eventually not so much, and my LG optical drive serves my very rare CD ripping and archive needs just fine.

More anecdotes...At my family business we have about 12 computers running Windows. Hardly ever have any problems.

At home I have a MacBook Pro...hardly ever have any problems.

Yeah, I know. Fascinating stuff!

I remember about 10 years ago when I called an old friend's Mac a "PC" and he threw a fit. It was really scary. Fortunately, he eventually got over how I blasphemed his computer.

I do know some other Mac/Apple users and they are mostly happy with their devices.

Excerpt from the article:

Over the past year or so, there seems to be less talk out there about the dreaded Apple Tax–the pointless extra dollars that Mac users supposedly line Apple’s pockets with compared to their friends and neighbors who buy Windows PCs. The “tax” is usually calculated based on a comparison of specs–how much you pay for a machine with a particular CPU, quantity of RAM, hard drive size, and so forth. Sometimes (but not by any means always) a similar-sounding Windows PC costs a lot less than a Mac.

I am, of course, a fan of beefy specs. But I’d love seeing proponents of the Apple Tax theory try to defend it in the wake of studies like this. If Mac owners are meaningfully happier overall than Windows PC ones, mightn’t it be a sign that you can’t compare computers on specs alone–and that the price you pay for a Mac is not unreasonable given the overall experience that you get in return? If Macs and Windows PCs are essentially identical, someone needs to tell Dell, HP, and Acer owners to start enjoying their systems more. And the rest of the industry needs to get to work building MacBook Air -like Windows laptops that cost no more than the Air does.

But if you'd prefer, I could find Dells, Lenovos, Fujitsu, et al for lower prices than Apple MacBook Pros.

Challenge: Find a laptop cheaper than a Macbook Pro 17 ($2,500) with comparable specs, including screen resolution (1920x1200).

What you are missing is that in this thread, a few posters have been saying that your willy is evil and no one should use your willy and that people are stupid for using your willy. And there is no such thing as Mac versus PC. Good times :)
