The composer of the hit song Eye of the Tiger has sued Newt Gingrich to stop the Republican presidential candidate from using the Rocky III anthem at campaign events.
The lawsuit was filed in the US federal court in Chicago yesterday by Rude Music, the Palatine, Illinois-based music publishing company owned by Frank Sullivan, who composed the song and copyrighted it in 1982.
The lawsuit states that as early as 2009, Gingrich has entered rallies and public events to the pulsing guitar riffs of the song, which was the background track to Rocky Balboa's training montages in the film and became a No. 1 hit.

Suck it Newt! :D

Republicans have a tough row to hoe on this issue. All the good musicians are Democrats. I mean could Newt really get away with playing "Cat Scratch Fever" at every event?

What's left, Victoria Jackson on the ukulele?

To be fair, there's often a case of this in a campaign year where a candidate uses a song in their campaign that they neglected to get permission to use first.

I recall reading that Pete Townsend is a right-winger and only lets people of his political persuasion license "Won't Get Fooled Again."

Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, probably quite a few others from Country music. (Not Willie Nelson, though.)

Though really, when it comes to entertainers getting political, the best thing the Republicans have going for them is Barbra Streisand.

I find the idea of Newt trying to pass himself off as a Rocky Balboa type of figure amusing.

Did Rocky abandon Adrian for a younger woman?
