Merged Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth - (Part 2)

This thread has helped me to accept Mithras into my life as my only god. At least Mithraism is openly full of bull.

DOC converts another one! I think that's three in this thread, way to go DOC!

I prefer the "Cult of the Great Apis Bull" just for the name .

The most famous of the bull cults is undoubtedly that of the Apis bull (also known as the Hapis Bull or "Hapi-ankh"). The bull was the incarnation of a god, but unlike the other animal totems (who only provided a link to the god) the Apis was thought to host the god himself. The Apis bull was originally viewed as the manifestation of Ptah. However, the Apis was soon linked to Osiris when Ptah and Osiris merged and so Plutarch described the Apis as the "fair and beautiful image of the soul of Osiris". According to one myth the Apis was the living embodiment of Ptah while he lived and Osiris when he died.

I think the Celtiberians also had some form of bull worship. But I'm not quite sure about that.
Maybe marginally related to the topic at hand: How much writing do we actually have from Palestine in antiquity. I seem to recall inscriptions but I'm not quite sure which search terms to use for writing and literature of that time in that region in general. I'd be grateful for pointers in the right direction.

Pharaoh, you got some competition here.

That was mean.

I remember now.
Interestingly, I gave similar advice last time as well.
I also remember reading many fun exchanges between you and Piggy and others.
It unfortunately died.
Now that you refreshed my memory, I remember that too. That was the thread where OCaptain went on and on about a listserv that he wouldn't link, and told us to "do our own homework" when asked about it.

Your loss. Most others did not feel put out.
Again, joobz is giving you very, very good advice. Lots of friendly and lively discussion takes place on religion and history. Please, for the love of Pete, start a thread if you want to discuss something else. I'd me amazed if someone hasn't reported all your derails already, in which case they won't last here anyway.

Can't you at least come up with something new to try?
You'd think that if DOC was a human being with average intelligence or even a really stupid AI he'd have realized by now (in the four years the evidence thread has been active) that his arguments aren't working.

At first I thought he was amusing, but there's only so much stupidity you can take before it loses it's entertainment value.

Considering that the thread is never on track to begin with where's the big surprise that OCaptain hasn't been reported?

Besides wich, with the way their posts have been fareing so far, I have a pretty good idea how any thread they'd make would be treated. As do they, I'd imagine.

It would have been much simpler (and more honest) to have said, "No, I don't have evidence he rose from the dead".
Instead, you chose to link to a website that has already been demonstrated to be nothing more than a series of bad arguments and logical fallacies.

We all know that Easter is the time when we celebrate the birth of the Easter Bunny. Twenty six pages and still no evidence that the writers of the New Testament didn't make it all up.

I think I've mentioned this before, but if you set your thread length to 50 posts per page, the result is that this thread is only 21 pages long. Four pages less depressing.

What difference would that make? The number of posts stays the same, and I find this thread entertaining.

So, will you be presenting evidence as to the thread topic?

Oh, how ironic. For all the accusations of not reading the thread I have gotten in the past 12 hours, if you'd read just MY posts, you'd see I already answered this question.

I've read your posts and there's no escaping the conclusion that until it was pointed out to you several times you hadn't even read the thread title, let alone responded to it.

And I still find no reason to believe you've read the OP. You certainly haven't responded to that.

Not doing it again just for you. Please check and get back to me.

Yourself. You need to get over it.

But DOC, all your evidence is from dyed in the wool xtians fundamentalists. It's like approaching that idiot Tom Cruise and telling him his faith is complete bollocks. He would find a million excuses telling you why it's not. Does that mean scientology must be true? :covereyes

And Welshdean's response to me (post #603) Where he confuses me with a Fundie, and suggests that "Fundies have no place in the 21st century, and the sooner this world is free of them, the sooner we can all enjoy a true 'enlightenment'". That even fits Dafydd's definition of hate (wishing harm or death to others).

Really, really ... lets see what I actually wrote shall we ...
'Constructive reply'? What on earth can one say to a one eyed, closed minded fundy aside from 'read a different book', that could possibly be 'constructive'? Fundies aren't interested in a dialogue unless it reinforces their twisted world view. They aren't interested in conversations from outside their clique, lest they learn something worthwhile.
Fundies, by their very definition are 'destructive'. Destructive to themselves, their families, their communities and as we've seen with the likes of the Texas School Board, their nation.
Fundies have no place in the 21st century, the sooner this world is free of them, the sooner we all will enjoy a true 'enlightenment'.

You've demonstrated your self indulgent sensitivities throughout your post history but it boggles the mind of even the most biased of readers to infer any hatred to the point of wishing 'harm or death to others' from my quoted post above. Is this yet another example of 'fundy persecution complex' or are you yet another fundy polluting these boards with your 'lies for jeebus'?

If you want real examples of wishing 'harm or death to others' take a look at these postings from your cohort:

If you want to apologise for your malapropism, go ahead. But having seen this tactic used far too often by your ilk in the past, I'll not hold my breath.
So as I said in post 603, go ahead and read a different book, because as I alluded to earlier, that's how we will eradicate fundamentalism, by education, not by violence. The fact that you instantly jumped to the erroneous conclusion of my wishing 'harm or death to others', says significantly more about your mindset than it does mine by the way. But you guys have a bit of history in that regard, don't you.

As a post script, if you don't like the 'fundy' tag, stop waddling and quacking like one.

But DOC, all your evidence is from dyed in the wool xtians fundamentalists...

Well even if this was true, it would be an ad hom fallacy. Here are some reasons it is not true.

Archaeologist Sir William M. Ramsay was a skeptic before he studied biblical lands for 15 years and subsequently stated Gospel writer Luke was a great historian (with regard to non-supernatural events).

One piece of evidence I presented was that of a Jewish Rabbi who stated that "Oral Tradition Evidence" was superior to written evidence at that time. Oral tradition was an important way to relay information in that time of little literacy and no paper or printing presses.

Also probably the greatest evangelist who ever lived, the apostle Paul, at one time approved of the killing and persecutions of Christians.

And even I was a skeptic/atheist at one time.
