Santorum wants C.U..... no, I can't even finish the joke

In any event it was satisfying.

You know, at first I thought my response was a bit premature.

Damn serious. Which is why I'm working to end shows like SNL, The Daily Show, Colbert and The Onion. laughing at politicians and their gaffes is un-American. Mort Sahl would be pissed and I wouldn't blame him.
 
I was really hoping the Conservatives Unite Moneybomb was an unaffiliated group. Say, a Democratic conspiracy to support the least electable candidate.

But sadly, no, at the bottom of the page it admits to have been paid for by Rick Santorum For President. This leads me to conclude one or more of the following are true:

1) Rick's campaign staff, like Rick himself, are a frothy mixture of clueless and out of touch.

2) His campaign has been infiltrated by Leftist or possibly Erisian saboteurs.

3) His campaign has been infiltrated by Republicans who really want Obama to win a second term so that Jeb Bush can run in 2016.
 
I'm starting to believe that Santorum agrees with the adage "all publicity is good publicity". When he makes statements like this, he knows that all the liberals will talking about him (and his statement) for days, and he'll even get mentioned a couple of extra times in The Onion and whatever the American versions of 22 Minutes and Mercer Report are.

I'm sorry, but there is a line. Not everything that makes a twelve year old chuckle is a gaffe, or inappropriate. However, this crosses the line and should be mocked as something stupid to do. The name even NOT as an acronym is stupid and convoluted. As an acronym it's funny as hell. This isn't B.U.T.T., or even T.I.T.S. Hell, TITS could be a reasonable acronym is the non-acronym form is good (Tactical Initiative Tahoe Station).

This spells out CUM. The only way it could be better is if it had 'z' in it. Any of the other examples of bad acronyms I could do would be auto-censored.

The most generous interpretation is that they did this on purpose so they could attack those who snicker at it as immature and petty. It's the only one I know of where they have a clue.

I like conspiracies. They involve planning ahead, doing research, thinking about consequences and following through. No conspiracies at all? That means nobody is actually thinking things through. That notion may be more well supported by the evidence (ie, the entire Bush administration) but I don't find it very comforting.

Sometimes I'd rather believe that Evil Overlords are plotting than to believe that complete morons are running most of the planet.

There are lots of conspiracies in the world, real ones.

4) He does this on purpose, so he can whine about deviants attacking his campaign.
 
I don't think Santorum himself should get much blame here. He certainly doesn't have time to check the acronym of every name job his staff does. However, he should be aware of the problem and fire whoever did this. That is the proper level of campaign management he should have.

That's the thing. The name may have been "bad", but that's a subjective opinion and in any case hardly constitutes a remarkable "gaffe", nor is the name itself funny (even to a twelve-year-old). Those calling it a mistake seem to be suggesting that whenever composing a name for something, one has to make sure it won't set off a wave of toilet humor should someone arbitrarily decide to make an acronym out of it. I'm not sure that's as intuitive as people seem to think it is.

Of course now that it's a problem I suppose he should do something about it, either by changing it and firing the person who thought if the name, or by exploiting his opponents' reaction.
