I'm thinking diplomats would do everything they can to convince Israel to not get involved.

Wow. We a culpa. Guess we gotta let them have nukes and choke the strait if we don't do exactly as they say. Because we didn't allow Iran to become a Soviet satellite back in the 50's.

We be Iran's bitch now. Just like Childlike Empress always wanted. By gawd, that'll teach us to have a containment policy against the spread of Soviet imperialism.

But this gets me thinking: if we had a CIA as all-powerful as it was then, we wouldn't even need any armed forces, or even a God. We could just call upon the all-powerful C - Yi - Yay to overthrow any regime that gives us any trouble and replace it with a lap dog. We'd be the big dog then. But no, we had to go and de-fang the CIA, and now every tom, dick and harry knows everything the CIA tries (and invariably fails) to do.

GodDAMN, it's the runs being a monkey on a freaking monkey planet. And now, to top it all off, we gotta be the freaking Ayahtollah's whipping-boy. All because we didn't let the Soviets seize Iran half a century ago.

That "blowback" is a bitch, ain't it. Stone cold bitch.
 
Al, you are drinking something I think I'd like to sample.

NATO is not going to invade Iran. (Whether or not the US and Iran trade high speed lead I'm not as sure about, as of this writing). You need to do your homework and find out how NATO does much of anything. It has to be unanimous, or it doesn't happen.

You might have noticed that NATO didn't, as a whole, come in on Iraq.
You can bet the rent money that NATO-Israel is not alliance of record, nor will it be any time soon, nor will NATO will not invade Iran.

Might some of the NATO member nations mix it up with Iran? Maybe.
