Things you learn watching Fox News

I remember when I was a kid, adults were all up in arms over the violence in Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons. Yet no one I knew ever dropped an anvil on someone else's head.

I dimly remember when I was little, seeing something on the news (or was it "Hard Copy"?) about a parents group being upset about a particular Daffy Duck cartoon, which had a scene that evidently mirrored a (non-pornographic) scene in an adult film, down to the dialogue and "setting". I'm not altogether certain what was so horrific about it; I don't recall the exact episode, but the scene was as I mentioned non-pornographic in its own context, and no kid would've "recognized" it as a scene from a porn flick anyway.

Are you sure that the Daffy Duck scene was from the porn movie, rather than the porn movie being from Daffy Duck?

So some adult watches a lot of porn and recognized the scene when they happened to watch that particular Daffy Duck or some adult watches a lot of Daffy Duck and happened to watch that particular porno or some adult watches a lot of porn and a lot of Daffy Duck?

I've learned what a terrorist fist jab is and that editing in footage from event A into footage from event B to make event B look as if it were much more attended than it was is perfectly okay.

That would have been 'Daffy Ducklace' in "Deep Bill". IMDB says it is a searing indictment of social inequality as it follows the attempts of the eponymous Duck to pay it's utility bills during the harsh winter of 1972. Apparently the Duck took to water to make a dime and ended up involved in plucking on stage in a seedy club.

A wabbit was also involved, and has been ever since.

I'm not sure if I want to look for this on the 'net or not...

I mean...boobs! ...but...Nancy Grace... :yikes:

I watched the clip. Had Nancy been wearing her trademark black leather suit, boob display would have been fun. But she was wearing a dress that made her look like Fairy Godmother in "Shrek". Not sexy at all.

Bump time! A new study was just released:

Study finds Fox News viewers most misinformed on issues

A new study from WorldPublicOpinion.org, a project within the University of Maryland, found that Fox News viewers were more likely to be misinformed on a number of domestic issues than other news consumers are.

"Those who watched Fox News almost daily were significantly more likely than those who never watched it to believe that most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely), most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points), the economy is getting worse (26 points), most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points), the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points), their own income taxes have gone up (14 points), the auto bailout only occurred under Obama (13 points), when TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points) and that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States (31 points)."

Surprise!

I learned that a "D" and an "R" are interchangeable, depending on whether the related story is good or bad for the person in question.

No it is just that they forget to put the legs on the R when it is bad news.

All of the posts here seem to suggest that somehow FNC is any different than any other media outlet (CNN, MSNBC, CBS, BBC, etc.). They ALL have their slant. FNC gets more focus because they are basically they are the only ones with a right wing slant. Criticism for the left leaning media gets distributed across all the others.

I guess it's like following the Knox case and how you feel about JREF vs PMF/TJMK. If you believe Knox/Sollecito are innocent then JREF is the bastion of honesty and intellectual dialog and PMF/TJMK are crap. But should you believe in their guilt you will see things entirely different. As a politically independent person, I find ALL the media outlets are crap...

I know there are lots of different kinds of media out there but as far as cable TV news goes there was nothing even resembling as much of a slant as Fox has until MSNBC, after failing in about 50 other formats straight, decided to simply mimic Fox except on the left. But even now MSNBC oftentimes has just regular programs on or neutral news-type stuff, or at least they do on weekends. I'm not sure there is any point in a 24 hour day when Fox isn't pushing their slant, even when they're just giving a straight news report.

Also, although I don't watch MSNBC on weeknights much because I don't really like seeing stuff so blatantly political, while they're as slanted as Fox, I would be surprised if they reported outright falsehoods as often as Fox does.

I read about a study done by a university recently...I forget which one...and they (a) asked people where they got their new and (b) quizzed them on current events. And the people that said they got most of their news from Fox scored lower than the people that said they don't even follow the news. Now that I type that out it occurs to me that maybe it was already mentioned earlier in this thread. ETA: Duh, it's like, four posts up, okay, silly me. ETA Again: Now that I look at it maybe it's comparing Fox viewers with people that don't view Fox, as opposed to Fox viewers with people that don't follow the news at all.

There's a huge difference in degree and directed purposeful propaganda vs simple directed story choice. If you don't believe that chances are you are a Fox fan.

As for the Knox comments, they are off topic here and not deserving of a response.

At the risk of perhaps not wanting to know...

What are PMF/TJMK for those of us who don't read Amanda Knox threads?

I'm often surprised that Fox has a science story on the front page. I am rarely surprised at the comments.

Those comments over the Science news are a great source of intertainment. Whenever Fox News has an article dealing with evolution, I skip the article and go right to the comments - :D
