Help me decide who to vote for this week! I'm a registered Republican in NH, and have not a clue who to vote for in the primary. It's a year for writing in "none of the above". However, since I want Obama to win (not his biggest fan but he's way better than the sorry crop of Republicans this year) which person gets my vote?

I'm afraid Romney would be too good a candidate and could possibly win. I think Huntsman is the one I'd most like to run, as he's the least insane of the lot. Santorum is unelectable, Newt is also unelectable. Ron Paul, at least he's ok with pot. They all hate gay marriage and no one gets my vote in the general election unless they are ok with gay!

So.. .NH primary...I still haven't a clue!

HELP!

A vote for Huntsman seems to me like a vote telling the rest of the party not to be so stupid. That's the direction I'd go if I was in your shoes.

I went with Hunstman, even though I think he sucks.

He just isn't as maliciously sociopathic as Newt or Santorum, nor quite as arrogant as Mittens the Vulture.

Just so you know, Huntsman actually is very conservative. He just doesn't give off conservative culture warrior vibes.

Oh, don't misunderstand my recommendation at least. It would take a terrible Democratic candidate for me to end up going with a Republican at this stage of the game. I just think that a vote for [relative] sanity is at least a statement worth making.

ETA: And, by the way, thanks kitty for giving us a chance to at least pretend to have influence over a New Hampshire vote. It's certainly more powerful than my vote for President will be here in Oregon. ;)

Romney's going to win, but since it is a primary, it could be important to spit some delagates toward someone else. Huntsman is easily the least crazy of the GOP candidates, and any power you can give him in steering the Republicians come convention time is worthwhile.

Go ahead and vote for Santorum. He has the least chance against Obama. Perhaps, their crazies run and are humiliated, the rank and file of the Republicans will lean more toward sanity.

I just can't buy into the strategy of voting for crazies because they are sure to lose. While that is true, what you wind up doing is giving legitimacy to crazies. Next election they'll pop up saying, "Look! We're making progress!" and a substantial number of people will regard that as significant. Make sure crazies are kicked to the curb so hard they can't get up, that's what I say.

yeah I'm leaning toward Huntsman.....just because

what scares me also is what nut job is Romney going to pick for VP?

Can't be Huntsman, a two Mormon ticket...nah....

Bachman? Yikes!

At least the dude isn't basing his platform on the outright denial of reality. That's gotta count for something.

I voted Huntsman for reasons already articulated. But I'm surprised Romney has no votes so far, and even moreso, that the Paultards haven't skewed the tally. Yet.

I recommend Santorum. However, I am immature and puerile and just want to see more immature and puerile references to santorum this elections seasons, so the longer he stays in, the more theater I get.

I respect this frothy choice.

If you compare his tax proposals to Romney's, it's Huntsman who looks like the less sane person.

Newt. He needs the support. Poor guy isn't even trending in South Carolina any longer. (In fact, the big surprise is that Romney is.... Is it really all over but for the shouting?)

Go for Paul if you want Obama to get his second term.
Paul is "unelectable"

Is NH proportional or winner take all? I know most Dem caucus/ primaries are proportional but I thought most of the time the Rs went all or nothing. It's one of the reasons McCain had the whole deal sealed while Obama and Clinton were still clawing it out until relatively late into the '08 primary season.

Go with Huntsman. He's definitely very conservative but qualified and not utterly bonkers.

so just got a call from the Ron Paul campaign. You have to understand, I get at least 5 phone calls every day from a campaign or a poll. Also at least 5 pieces of mail each day. And it starts at least a year before the primary! Just perhaps a few phone calls a week, but people want to know what we voters in NH want to hear.

I try to talk to as many as I can, and see as many as I can stand in person.

OK as I'm writing THIS "Catholic Vote.org" just called to ask me to vote for Santorum because he's about FAMILY. He's the only ONE talking about the right to life!

(like that's high up on my list)

So tonight earlier, the Ron Paul people called. Got a nice young volunteer (and they are darn good ones they put on for NH) and he was very good about answering my questions. I asked about gay rights and gay marriage. I was "this is really important to me." The guy was nice and said while Ron Paul thinks marriage is between a man and a woman, he would let states decide. I thought that was a fair answer. I also asked about pot, and he was saying Ron Paul thinks it should be legalized by states and could be a terrific source of income for those states. I have to admit that has merit. Let's tax it! (opps tax is a bad Ron Paul word). But really, it is a major crop...

At least Ron Paul has a better phone campaign going ! Still, I think I'd need to hear it from Ron Paul himself that he's ok with states deciding about gay marriage.

Huntsman hasn't called, but he has good tv ads that just say "I'm electable!" (but with more words).

Romney must have written me off...he hasn't called tonight.

So WIN for Ron Paul
LOSE TOTALLY for Santorum
Huntsman is still the most human of them all
