Rick Santorum is an idiot, a bigot, and morally inconsistent...

What did you think he said, just out of curiosity?
"I don't want to make peoples lives better by giving them somebody else's money"

It's weird though. Now that I've replayed it a bunch of times, I hear the "black". But when I first listened, It never even crossed my mind.
I had to ask myself where the racism was.

One can't argue with someone who pretends to have special gifts in perceiving subliminal subconscious hidden messages in speech patterns and slips of the tongue.
There is nothing subliminal aboput it. I heard most, if not all of the phonemes of the word "black" come out of his mouth.

That he got tongue-tied seems really wierd unless he was catching himself saying something stupid.

The only thing I could imagine going on is that he was going to add an adjective to "people's lives." And what adjective could it have been? I did not sound like he was trying to say "poor" or "unemployed."

I do not see, based on the sounds that came out of his mouth, how it could have been anything other than "black."

Nothing else sounds close, thus plausible.

No, it's ongoing. People don't want to even consider that he didn't say it.

Can't you do the mental exercise of removing that idea from your mind and just read his full comment for itself and see how it fits?
I have considered it, but it seems to me pretty clear, plus haven't seen a better argument. If he wasn't saying "black" then what was he saying? Definitely not "poor". His subsequent interview with AC makes it clear he realized what he said. You, on the other hand, have provided no reasonable explanation for the apparent goof.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think he intended to say "black". I think it was just a knee jerk reaction. Emphasis on the jerk.

Interesting.

Again, starting with the false idea that he was talking about black people.

If you remove that false presupposition from your mind, for one second, the speech is entirely consistent and benign.

So when he mentions black people, he's really not talking about black people?!

You really should just stop posting.

I listened to it again because it is critically important. ;) I've come to the conclusion that this could well be audio paradolia, Okay, that was my previous conclusion. On the other hand, dHe could have said it (wouldn't surprise me).

Was there just a several page argument about if Santorum said 'black' or not, despite several other things he's said more idiotic and even more things to criticize in the statement even he agrees he said?

We are supposed to elect a Commander In Chief on the basis of their opinion on evolution? How is that not idiotic? Why not ask them what they think of osmosis or photogenisis? It seems that only Liberals make such things issues. This country is nuts. It is pathetic.

Yes. Branding "racist" is a paramount leftist purpose and delight.

And homosexuality.

Yes. That's what matters...

anyone familiar with CBC radio's 'as it happens', should tune in now.
this is the topic of their immediately next interview.

if anyone caught this, it is pretty obvious he said 'black'.
on cnn last night he kinda denied it, but not really.
i'm sure this will be online at cbc.ca/aih

they play the word he said, and the word he claimed he said, several times.
he said "black," folks.

All good points AND there is a thread dedicated to this subject. Who knows. :)

My biggest beef with Santorum is his clear anti-gay attitude.
It's bigotry in the highest and I don't want such a person as president.

So we should not care if we elect a leader to a country as big and as powerful as the USA that understands one of the most basic concepts in science?

In case you were unaware, the president appoints a cabinet, including a Secretary of Education. This person has enormous power over the educational process and guidelines in our country. I would worry greatly about a president who would appoint people to educational posts who were in favor of teaching mythology in the place of science. Wouldn't you? If not, why not?

Playing the devil's advocate, are their any religions that think it is a virtue or acceptable?
Apart from Liberalsim, that is.

  • Unitarian Universalism
  • United Church of Christ
  • Alliance of Baptists
  • Reform Judaism
  • Reconstructionist Judaism
For starters...

Bump, Bill. If how the potential President feels about 3%-10% of the citizens he intends to represent is irrelevant, why did you ask the above?

Well, yes. A person holding racist beliefs has demonstrated on at least one subject to be absolutely without rationality or critical thinking ability. Those are pretty important in relation to how well someone can govern. So being a racist is a pretty big strike against someone. This should be fairly obvious.

As for being fair to homosexuals, equating homosexual marriage to plural marriage and marriage to a dog shows mind-boggling ignorance or hatred. Such a person is unfit for high office. Regarding understanding basics about reality, again, someone who denies these things is unfit for high office. That actually does matter.

My point was that whether or not Santorum said 'black' there, he's still horrid. Plus he looks like he just smelled a fart all the time.

Your only argument is that you think it sounded like "black". Not much better.

That is still a lie no matter how many times you say it. I cited 3 separate lines of evidence and numbered them for your convenience.

Because we have a secular government. I wouldn't trust anyone to be the Chief Executive (much less the C-in-C of our armed forces) who puts unfounded antiquated religious beliefs ahead of modern scientific knowledge. It's a huge flaw in the way that person reasons (or at least the political pandering to people who use that irrational thinking).

The POTUS is the single office with the most authority in our government. We should look for the best possible person for the job. I have no problem with considering evidence of irrationality to be a criterion in making this selection.

I realize some people, for some reason, think it's more important to have a president that seems like the kind of person you could have a beer with, but that's way down on the list of credentials I'm after.
