Rick Santorum Says He’s Not Interested In Helping African-Americans

Looks like Rick Santorum agrees with Frederick Douglass:...
Everybody has asked the question, and they learned to ask it early of the abolitionists, "What shall we do with the Negro?" I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are wormeaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature's plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! If you see him on his way to school, let him alone, don't disturb him! If you see him going to the dinner table at a hotel, let him go! If you see him going to the ballot- box, let him alone, don't disturb him! If you see him going into a work-shop, just let him alone,--your interference is doing him a positive injury. Gen. Banks' "preparation" is of a piece with this attempt to prop up the Negro. Let him fall if he cannot stand alone!

youprovided a wrong quote of him saying something he obviously didn't say. but you don't care, just like Fox news would not care....
True believers value the true belief with little or no concern for facts.

The script goes something like this:

Believer: X is an asshat because of facts A, B and C
Skeptic: A, B, and C are false
Beiever: Doesn't matter because X is an asshat

I indeed think that Santorum is a world class asshat. But that doesn't make it right to propogate BS.

i think it is mainly because many people just cannot admit of being wrong about something. i see that often.

I agree but he must be scary to some people if they are making up lies about him.
His anti-LGBT position does scare me. A lot of campaign rhetoric can be problematic and proposed policies could be harmful but most would require legislation. His "I don't hate gays" hateful rhetoric leads to harm now. He's not alone but he has kicked it up a notch.

And thus the meme runs free, and will probably be cited as well-established truth five years from now with no real chance to stop it.

And a fair amount of people will shrug, because he isn't liked, anyway.

First they came for the raving jackasses, and I . . .
Oh, wait. That's right. They got me on the first run.

Obviously he was using hyperbole, but he is basically saying he wants to do away with all social welfare programs. And then he claims he can revitalise our manufacturing industry.

Interesting that he we don't bat an eye at those absurd comments :p .

While doing some last minute campaigning, Santorum declared that he doesn’t want to help blacks because he thinks they rely too much on welfare which includes Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, food stamps, and unemployment benefits.

”I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their money and provide for themselves and their families. The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling.”

Even worse, I heard he wants to lynch them!

No need to make anything up. Santorum says plenty of crazy ****:

“Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?”

“The idea is that the state doesn't have rights to limit individuals' wants and passions. I disagree with that. I think we absolutely have rights because there are consequences to letting people live out whatever wants or passions they desire.”

“I have no problem with homosexuality. I have a problem with homosexual acts.”

“What happened in America so that mothers and fathers who leave their children in the care of someone else ... find themselves more affirmed by society? ... Here, we can thank the influence of radical feminism, one of the core philosophies of the village elders.”

“This was tried once before in America, when the liberty and happiness rights of the slaveholder were put over the life and liberty rights of the slave. But unlike abortion today, in most states even the slaveholder did not have unlimited right to kill his slave.”

“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. [Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special.”

“The reason Social Security is in trouble is that we don’t have enough workers to support the retirees. Well, a third of of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion — because one-in-three pregnancies end in abortion.”

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

and do you think Jesus would have agreed on that?

the republican plan to give money to the rich, in hopes that it will trickle down' to the poor is absurd.
santorum is a moron and a danger to america.

and do you have now to say anything about your false claims about what he allegedly said? is it really that embarassing to admit of having been wrong?

It appears Santorum's plan is missing this bit.

For those who were defending Santorum's words, your efforts were in vain: Santorum on controversial remark: I was 'tongue-tied'
Talking about welfare programs at an Iowa campaign stop on Sunday, the Republican presidential candidate was quoted as saying, “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them someone’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money.”

The word “black” has become the focal point of controversy, but Santorum said Wednesday on CNN’s “John King, U.S.A.” that he didn’t recall using that particular word.

“It was probably a tongue-tied moment as opposed to something that was deliberate,” Santorum said, adding that he has watched the video several times and still can’t clearly hear the word.

You saying he wants to do away with all social programs is also hyperbole. He said a better way to help is to get jobs for poor people.

Although in his case I do believe he clearly equated black people to those who need (and use ) public services.

I just watched the video finally. I think he started to say "black people's lives" but then tried at the last second to change it to just "people's lives". I don't believe there was an intention to say a word other than "black"--though there was obviously an intention not to say any word in that spot.

[ETA: I accept that what sounded like "black" was a slip of the tongue, but it was Freudian slip.]

As for the rest of the clip--he's decrying federal law for attempting to get more people access to health care via Medicaid (which helps low income people only)? So he thinks it's a good idea to keep millions of people from having reasonable access to healthcare (where most of them will have to pay in something, even if it's just very small co-pays for drugs)? Who does he think will provide healthcare services for those people when they face life threatening medical issues?

He claimed that someone told him (Bachmann's technique--he's quoting someone with approval, but if anyone questions it, he'll say it wasn't his idea) that the state of Iowa would get a huge fine if it didn't sign up more people for Medicaid. I think what that means is that the state of Iowa stood to lose federal funds that they were being granted to help more people in their state get minimum essential coverage.
