Rick Perry Thinks Canada Is Not A Foreign Country

Can somebody explain to me how it is meaningful or useful to dispute the accuracy of Perry's statement?

If there is anyt question as to whether or not a presidential candidate has all his head bolts torqued right, it is critical that we examine the evidence closely.

I am sure that more than one of Perry's has rattled loose.

We have already been through hell from having once elected an old geezer whose brain had long since sprung a leak.

Well, some don't.

It seemed pretty unified when I was in Nova Scotta. Even the car ads on TV would say "...the best deals in North America" as if the division was not there.

In the Seattle area, we get CBC on our cable line up and no one mentions that it is from a foreign country.

It used to be that locally people in Spokane would accept Canadian coins along with American coins.

He said foreign source, not foreign country. He probably has in mind the fact that culturally the Mid East is more foreign and unstable to Americans than the culture of Canada. The USA would not have to go to war to protect our interest in Canadian oil.

Then we have a cozy relationship. Thus, less foreign than the relationships with other countries.

You said it is sold at a fraction of the world price. This must be due to the fact that we are close in more ways than just being neighbors.

I can drive to Canada whenever I want without first getting a visa stamped in my passport. I cannot go to Brazil so easily. I have to plan months ahead of time if I go see my in-laws. Canada is less foreign than the land of my family.

Actually, we do.

Even those of us that live in the USA.

But, at the same time, Canadian celebs are interviews on American talk shows and often being a Canadian never comes up. I have also seen American celebs interviewed in Candaian talk shows as if they were one of their own.

It is another country, of course. "Foreign" is a matter of degree, I think.

SAC/NORAD has its coverage going over Canada. We have joint military exercises as if it was between states rather than countries.

Maybe one day we will be allowed to inter-marry.

NAFTA made us less foreign.

Sometimes if there is a good movie on CBC, we start to watch it without even thinking we are watching a broadcast from another country.

I had more of a culture shock moving to Texas than when I lived and worked in Canada.

I am joking about the inter-marry sentence, by the way.

So, since it isn't stupid to make a distinction between sovreignty and foreignty, as Perry does (though one might argue that it is stupid to ignore such a distinction), it's not meaningful or useful to dispute the truth of his statement on the grounds of stupidity.
