100 million deaths due to capitalism in the 20th century.

funny, that...
.in dozens of posts and threads over the years, a few here have repeatedly made the claim that communists killed hundreds of millions of people.
that fact is joyfully accepted, without smarm and derision.
however, just intimate that capitalists could be responsible for killing people, and the smarm flows.

capitalists, or at least a number of them here, are hypocrites.

I don't see the hypocrisy: one claim is, if not entirely valid, at least reasonable. That is, there is a meaningful connection between communism and the deaths attributed to it. While we can (and have) discussed the degree to which that connection is meaningful, there is a clear connection.

On the other hand, the majority of the deaths you've ascribed to capitalism have no meaningful connection to it.

There's no hypocrisy in failing to see two things that aren't equivalent as equivalent. That's called being reasonable.

Nope. See #22:

It's the sky. How could you get it sooooo wrong.;)

Ahh...I don't even care any more. We might as well give up. Even the freaking SKY is plotting to murder us.

Every stinking commie on the internet is trying to talk us into surrendering, to make it easier to march us off to the gulags without a whimper. Sucking us in with visions of sugar plums and workers' paradises, even as they secretly exult over their evil plans of mass extermination. And half of these suckers will fall for it again, sure as God made dysentery.

If one little short, beady-eyed, darty-eyed mass-murdering Stalin frakker can cow down hundreds of millions and exterminate them or half their relatives and then die in bed of a ripe old age after his impoverished victims have lionized and made statues of him, just think what the freaking SKY can do to us. We don't stand a chance. You think we were lucky to survive those nuclear-blackmailing commie bastards? Hell, they were easy. Just wait till the SKY gets hold of us.

What communist nation murdered a hundred million people?

Wouldn't it be more efficient to simply list those communist countries that have not murdered anyone for political reasons, instead of complaining about combining the death tolls of those that have?

If you would go ahead and provide that list, that would be great. We certainly don't want to catch any small, harmless communist countries in the dragnet. If you could head the list "The following communist countries are completely innocent of mass murder, not to be confused with other mass-murdering communist countries:", that would be great.

Because I find it plenty relevant to repeat:

Stalin: 20 -50 million

Mao: 40 Million

Hitler: ~ 6 million

Kim Jung Il:

Wanna continue playing that numbers game bikerdruid? I only listed three people's figures, there's plenty more authoritarian leaders we can have a look at.

But I suppose more importantly, did the OP ever address what he/she believes to be a viable alternative economic system for the United States?

hitler was not a communist.
he sent communists to the death camps along with jews, queers, gypsies and anyone else he didn't like.

the rest of your numbers are codswallop.
i do not consider electrical consumption as a marker of greatness, so your photo means nothing to me.

How does NK's lack of nighttime illumination matter one way or the other in regards to its political system? I strongly suspect communist China will be quite bright and that non-communist Somalia will not be so bright.

Hitler: ~ 6 million

Your number is a little low:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust
Broad definitions of the Holocaust include the Nazis' genocide of millions of people in other groups, including Romani (more commonly known in English by the exonym "Gypsies"), Sinti, Soviet prisoners of war, Polish and Soviet civilians, homosexuals, people with disabilities, Jehovah's Witnesses and other political and religious opponents, which occurred regardless of whether they were of German or non-German ethnic origin.[8] Using this definition, the total number of civilians murdered by the Nazis is between 10 million and 11 million (around 5.7 million Jews[9] and a roughly equal number of non-Jews)[10][11]

They have never been in charge.

However, they have a history of cooperation with and defense of authoritarian regimes.

And the moderates have a history of being against common people voting and women voting. Anyway, the question was not about being in charge or cooperating with authoritarian regimes (which has occurred if we go back many decades for sure) but it was explicitly whether all Communists were mass murderers.

China isn't that bright actually, certainly not what you'd expect given their population. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/Earthlights_dmsp.jpg

Japan, North America, and western Europe are by far the brightest. And yes, this pic is a nice illustration of the relative prosperity of various countries. Countries that can't afford lights at night also can't afford many other things.

Also interesting to compare Puerto Rico with Cuba.

North Korea's Kim Jong Ill also had anyone who dared question his authority in any way, shape or form executed, oh and lets not forget forced labor camps.

the rest of your numbers are codswallop.
Yeah, I'm sorry for the mistake folks; It seems I did underestimate those numbers. And you expect to argue the evils of capitalism based on numbers? You don't wanna get started with authoritarianism, or communism; that's quite a losing battle for you to undertake. Now if you will, next time you see fit to call my numbers balony please cite your sources.

There were National Socialists that weren't mass-murderers in places where National Socialists never took power. But so what?

Electricity is for greedy capitalists.
