From what I know, Mitt Romney is the one who is most likely to win the Republican race and also the Republican candidate who has the best shot at beating Obama in November.
So it is not impossible that this guy will end up president (by contrast, it is nigh impossible that Ron Paul will). What would a Romney presidency be like, for the US and the rest of the world? A Republican candidate has to profess to believe all sorts of weird things, and Romney is known for (or at least percieved) changing positions on a whim but at the same time from what I know the most pragmatic and centrist of the Republican candidates (with the exception of Huntsman, but he has no chance anyways). How would his hypothetical presidency play out in practice? Would he do anything significantly different than Obama, and if so, what?
At a general note, it surprises me that Americans are not more comcerned about the future of their country. While I don't believe that the US will "collapse" like the Western Roman Empire did, it is absolutely fair to say that it is a country in decline. If the 21st century is Neo-Medieval in its geopolitical shape (as has been suggested), then the US is the 21st century Byzantium.
