My goal for purchasing this book: I wanted a book that analyzed the errors, omissions, deceptions, wrongdoings, negligence, etc. of the previous administration in connection with the Iraq War and the events leading up to the Iraq War. Based on the prior reviews, I believed "Extreme Prejudice" might be a good candidate to fill this need. Unfortunately, Ms. Lindauer's book disappoints. I had hoped the primary subject of her book would be the deception of the Bush administration. However, Ms. Lindauer's primary subject is really herself. She comes across as self-indulgent, paranoid, and a little bit ..."off." The writing is not bad (not great, either), but her constant self-referencing and "how could they do this to me; I'll show them!!!" diatribes get distracting.
The policies and practices leading up to the Iraq War are a serious subject, and people have a right to ask questions about what happened. However, any writer taking it upon herself to answer these questions should have a bit more detachment. I can't fault her for it, on a personal level, since she apparently went through a nightmare at the hands of the previous administration. However, her experiences clearly undermine her ability to weave together her very important story.
In addition, within 40 pages of the book, she lets the reader know that she has "psychic abilities" and that one of her assets had a talent for "precognition." This may work for some readers but doesn't get the job done for me.
