Why should Obama be reelected?

I like his handling of international affairs. His actions during the Arab spring showed the statesmen he really is. Iran is reduced to manufacturing stories to keep the rage against America ongoing. And the US response to Libya was perfect.

I believe he genuinely cares. He wants his presidential term to matter, to make a difference

Since the POTUS is also Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces during time of war, and Obama has done far better in that role than had his predecessor, and all of his challengers for the ofice advocate some of the most hideously barbaric practices initiated under that predecessor, I must, as an old soldier, fully endorse Obama.

Obama is by far the best CinC that we have had for some time.

As a working man, I have to favor a POTUS who will favor the interests of labor over those of capital.

As an environmentalist, I must favor a POTUS who will not sacrifice the environment for quick profit.

I definitely prefer a POTUS who realizes that government is an instrument for social engineering, rather than a commercial operation.

The constitution gives the federal government authority to regulate how companies do business across state lines. It says nothing about who may bump fuzzies with whom. In this matter, Obama knows his palce. Government has busines in the boardroom, not the bedroom.

So any other opinions are "not allowed"?

Guess I didn't get the memo "declaring" you as master of this board.

Look at the republican contenders...don't shy away...take a GOOD LOOK, and tell me it isn't about "other" candidates.
Anybody can post as long as it's more-or-less on-topic. Applecorped can request that people give positive reasons, but he can't demand it. I considered it a polite request, so I tried (mostly) to honor it. I'd like to get a few more polite replies in before the thread degenerates into name-calling. It's not such an unreasonable request.

- He's nominated an openly gay federal judge, at least one person in his cabinet is a transgender woman, at least 150 other LGBT officials.

Eh?

ETA:

Ah. Not actually a Cabinet-level position. Nevertheless, good for Obama.

Why should Obama be reelected?

I'll vote for Obama for one reason ... he's the most liberal candidate most likely to win the election.

I'm too pragmatic to simply throw away my vote on someone I agree with more, but has no chance of actually winning.

I recall a recent local election where we had one candidate with no experience and some mildly nutty ideas. No one much liked him.

However the other candidate for the job was an open racist, religious nutbag who wanted to defund the fire department and park system.

We ended up electing the guy no one much liked and who ended up doing a pretty mediocre job. But it was for sure better than having a lunatic bigot run things into the ground.

Reasons Obama should be reelected so far:

1. He's a reasonable guy
2. He's doing a pretty good job

3. The rest of the world think he is a reasonable guy that they can deal with
4. He is not a right wing nutjob
5. he is not a religious extremist
6. He has improved the way that America is perceived by the rest of the world

"Should be reelected"? For a number of reasons I think he shouldn't be. I like him okay. I think he is head and shoulders above past presidents. What puts him in the vote for column for me is the opposition. In this forum I made a case for Romney and Huntsman when asked who I would vote for on the GOP side (odd because as a former Mormon the last thing I wanted was a Mormon president). I was sincere and I argued for them to the consternation of a few on the left. I wouldn't completely rule Romney out and Huntsman would still be viable to me if he had a chance.

I'm sorry but you can't escape the fact that the GOP field is a mess. Not even the GOP are happy about this group.

There are plenty of threads about the Republican nominees and their various faults/issues/reasons to not be elected.

Why should Obama be reelected? Without mentioning any Republican nominee tell me why should Obama serve another term. What do you hope he accomplishes in his next term?

Obama wouldn’t start any new wars in the Middle East unlike Gingrich if he were the Republican nominee.

Obama will bend over and give the gays everything they want.

To prevent the takeover of the USA by right-wing religious extremists, since all the viable republicon candidates appear to be such.

How is Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney right-wing religious extremists?

This is about Obama and not about any supposed other candidate, extreme or not.

That's not how elections work in this country. It's going to be between Obama and a GOP nominee. A reason for many people will be that Obama is preferable to that other nominee. It's a valid reason.
