Israel to evict WB settlers!

Agree with this. Why can't peoples just stay in one place so a proper shafting can take place. The Palestinians are proof of just how much can be achieved if you displace a people that wants to return. These nomads just bugger off somewhere else, where's the fun in that?

Don't know about the situation in Israel, but I stayed in a Bedouin camp in Egypt in the nineties.
The Egyptian authorities had forced the Bediouns there to settle in one designated place.
No doubt this made all the required shafting much more convenient.

I don't recall Israel doing the following:

Marching Bedouin/Palestinians across minefields and shooting them all if an israeli steps on a mine

Rounding Bedouin/Palestinians into wooden barns and setting them on fire

Encouraging rape of Bedouin/Palestinians as an official IDF policy

Rounding Bedouin/Palestinians into camps and working them to death as slave labour

Using Bedouin/Palestinians as test subjects for horrific experiments

Honestly, that's what people are saying when they compare Israel to Nazi Germany.

I for one think comparing Israel to National Socialist Germany is wrong.

The only country on Earth that has any influence appears to be the US and even then they've never stood up and said, "We cannot support that!".

Why can’t the US pressure Israel to change her policies?

Considering there is a difference of opinion within Israel about whether Palestinians are actually human, I'm not sure that it would extend to them.

Here in the US there is a debate as to whether the Palestinians are an actual people. Example Newt Gingrich, Israel’s best friend.

Indeed. I'm not really that invested in yet another "Israel bad, no Palestinians bad" thread, but suffice to say, it is still illegal for Israel to colonise the West Bank.

It doesn’t matter if it is illegal. The Israelis are creating new facts on the ground.

Comparing the Israeli actions to those of Nazi Germany makes no sense. The Israelis are MUCH more careful about this, since they know everyone is watching. They're doing it just slow enough to be able to take all of the land they want without anyone (who matters) getting angry about it.

Regardless of the whole occupation/conflict over land etc.
These are nomadic people, and nomadic people get shafted when they are in the way of more advanced civilisations. Not just in Israel.

And if you want to get into legalities: what is the legal status of the dwellings of the Bediouns?
What Bedouin journalist will get to write a nice article for Ha'aretz?
What Bedouin spokesperson will get on TV?

Non. because nomadic people get shafted when they are in the way of settlements, roads, airfields etc.

This isn't a problem that is unique to Israel, occupied or not.
The Roma aren't exactly high on the love list here in Europe either.

Who on this thread are defenders of this Israeli action and not Jewish?
Anyone?

Working for the Mossad?

I was referring to slightly more direct aspersions on the humanity of the Palestinans.

Illegal under what law, exactly?

International Law:

http://www.icrc.org/ihl.nsf/WebART/585-07?OpenDocument

d) "Deportation or forcible transfer of population" means forced displacement of the persons concerned by expulsion or other coercive acts from the area in which they are lawfully present, without grounds permitted under international law;

(...)

. For the purpose of this Statute, "crime against humanity" means any of the following acts when committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population, with knowledge of the attack:

(a) Murder;
(b) Extermination;

(c) Enslavement;

(d) Deportation or forcible transfer of population;

(e) Imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in violation of fundamental rules of international law;

(f) Torture;

(g) Rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, or any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity;

(h) Persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender as defined in paragraph 3, or other grounds that are universally recognized as impermissible under international law, in connection with any act referred to in this paragraph or any crime within the jurisdiction of the Court;

(i) Enforced disappearance of persons;

(j) The crime of apartheid;

(k) Other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health.

And that's not to mention the OTHER crimes against humanity listed here that Israel carries out on a daily basis in the territories.

He can't.

Because while the tactics may differ the strategy and the motivation remains the same.

I find it extremely sad that Israel, of all people, should have so many parallels with Nazi Germany. It's kind of like when an abused child becomes an abuser in later life.

Puppycow, you've changed.

Critical look at Harriet Sherwood's claims:

Had Sherwood bothered to go back into the archives, she would have discovered that the members of the Jahlin tribe have been warned by successive Israeli governments that they would have to move from land they have been squatting upon since the 1980s due to the fact that it has been located within the municipal region of Ma’ale Adomim since 1977.

With a little research, Sherwood would also have discovered that the Jahlin have no legal claims to the ownership of this land, as admitted by one of the tribe’s leaders to the Los Angeles Times as far back as 1994, and that the Israeli government has repeatedly offered a solution to the problem, most recently in 2009.

"With a little research," "Had Sherwood bothered to go back into the archives"

By that, naturally, the author means "trawl through CAMERA to find unsupported references to newspaper articles in america from enarly twenty years ago."

Most of the Bedouin living in the hilly desert between Jerusalem and Ma’ale Adumim are of the Jahalin tribe. According to Rabbi Grenimann of Rabbis for Human Rights, who has worked extensively with the Jahalin, “the most repeated story is that the Bedouins were expelled in the early ‘50s, 1951, 1952. I’ve heard a second story, that there was a fight between some families in the Negev and they crossed to the Jordanian side. All sources agree that they migrated north from the Negev, near Arad. They settled in the Judean desert near East Jerusalem in the early ‘50s.” There they lived in the periphery of Jordanian-Palestinian society, receiving refugee papers and rudimentary support from the UNRWA. Their traditional nomadic lifestyle slowly eroded over the years as the land available to them contracted.

Then why are you doing it? It's funny that despite the Jews having been there much MUCH longer, if an Arab group is in an area for 5 or more years, it's arab land and Jews are taking it from them. Gee, wonder what the arabs do with Jews who are in now Arab occupied land? Do they move them? No, they kill them.

How MUCH longer have the Jews been living there? Are you going back to the Six Day War, when Israel invaded the West Bank, or back to Babylonian times? Roman times, with the Diaspora?
