My anecdotal claims

Ok Meg here is your 3 card reading. A yin card, a yang card, and a balance card. I had my wife shuffle your cards on your behalf.

Your yin is hexagram 22 - Grace. This represents your passive and receptive quality. You have inner grace and strong feminine qualities. Inner elegance. "It expresses hidden or subconscious attributes that affect the overall harmony, either within yourself or in your relations with another. This card sheds light on supportive or unsupportive modes of behavior of which you may have been previously unaware."

Your yin is grace.

Your yang is hexagram 54 - The Marrying Maiden. "This represents the active, creative quality. It expresses the external influences impacting balance and harmony in your life."

Your yang is 54. Looks like your life has got you in a compromising position somehow.

The balancing hexagram is 3 - Difficulty at the Beginning. This is the hexagram that sheds light on the relationship between your yin (22) and your yang (54). "This hexagram represents the key to furthering or reestablishing balance and harmony in your life."

It looks like you are a good person of graceful, receptive character (22) and you are in a compromising external circumstance (54) and the process of overcoming it will be difficult for a time (3).

"DIFFICULTY AT THE BEGINNING works supreme success,
Furthering through perseverance.
Nothing should be undertaken.
It furthers one to appoint helpers.

Times of growth are beset with difficulties. They resemble a first birth. But these difficulties arise from the very profusion of all that is struggling to attain form. Everything is in motion: therefore if one perseveres there is a prospect of great success, in spite of the existing danger. When it is a man's fate to undertake such new beginnings, everything is still unformed, dark. Hence he must hold back, because any premature move might bring disaster. Likewise, it is very important not to remain alone; in order to overcome the chaos he needs helpers. This is not to say, however, that he himself should look on passively at what is happening. He must lend his hand and participate with inspiration and guidance."

Somewhere in hexagram 3 is the key to harmony between your yin and your yang. I don't know enough about your life to guess about whether or not all that will resonate with you.

I'll have my wife shuffle the cards again after dinner and then I'll give you your 7 card reading.

How does pulling 3 cards from a deck demonstrate Limbo's psychic abilities? If there is anything to the boilerplate associated with the three cards it would seem to indicate magical abilities of the cards themselves.

I have learned that psi comes not from the ego-self, not from the conscious mind. It 'comes from' the unconscious mind.

The wisest course for a mystic to take is to surrender control of it. Leave it to Divine Wisdom to handle. Otherwise it can be a temptation and a distraction.

It might also be the wisest course because, conveniently enough, it provides a built-in reason for not demonstrating mystical powers or psi abilities. No need to worry about performances that are consistently indistinguishable from what we would expect due to chance! :)

OK good. Should be about 30 minutes or so.
How about this - any nugget of verifiable, factual information that only one with your gifts could possibly know. Anything - the name of my cat, my son's name, something about my deceased mother. If not me, someone else.

I'll venture my powers in for a guess.

Your deceased mother is in a cemetery or was cremated.

Eh? EH?

Sorry but I'm not God at the moment. Just me. When I'm me I need a crutch to use my superpowers. I need to use an oracle (the I-Ching) and I need to surrender to the will of the God and the Goddess. They know better than I do how to direct my spiritual powers. Being in a body is quite limiting.

 How convenient! Do you become not-God every time you are asked to provide a verifiable fact that could only be known to you through your psychic powers, or is today a special occasion?

What a waste of electrons...

More ravings from the loony bin.

'A psychopomp is a guide, whose primary function is to escort souls to the afterlife, but they can also serve as guides through the various transitions of life. The term originates from the Greek words pompos (conductor or guide) and psyche (breath, life, soul, or mind). Stories of psychopomps are widespread throughout the mythological tales, religious texts, sacred narratives, and real-life stories of people around the world. '

Thank you. Never came across that one before.

Funny though. Do you think that Limbo really believes it?

I could be wrong, but I do.

Hmmmm. Ok. I will wait until after the 7 card reading to make any comments.

OK Meg here you go. Cards 1, 3, and 5 represent you. Cards 2, 4, and 6 represent your career. Card 7 represents the insight card, the wisdom card.

Cards 1 and 2 represent the "ground" upon which each of you stands and indicates the factors influencing the roots or foundations of this groundedness. These cards also reveal where, at present, each partner is coming from. In addition, they not only expose strengths and the firmness of one's anchoring, but also what may undermine this security in either or both of you.

Card 1, you, is hexagram 5 - Waiting.

-perseverance
-restraint
-right timing

Card 2, your career, is hexagram 58 - The Joyous.

-goodwill
-open communication
-happiness

Cards 3 and 4 represent the emotional climate. They focus on the dynamic that supports harmony within each party, and on the the challenges that each party faces in assuming greater responsibility to clear up discord or unblock communication. These cards are in the heart position and, as such, can uncover areas of vulnerability and lack of trust. They can also shed light on emotional wounds, and on the hidden fears and habits we have developed to camouflage them.

Card 3, you, is hexagram 27 - Nourishment

-providing for others
-well-being

Card 4, your career, is hexagram 43 - Resoluteness

-no compromises
-unwavering focus

Cards 5 and 6 focus on the state of mind, on the perspective, the longings, the hopes and fears of each partner - and your attitudes toward them. This position can be the catalyst for a breakthrough in your thinking. It can help you acquire a new perspective by supporting you in approaching the relationship more openly and without being defensive.

Card 5, you is hexagram 49 - Revolution

-transformation
-a radical change
-give up the old to make way for the new

Card 6, your career, is hexagram 6 - Conflict

-competitiveness
-stubborness

Card 7 represents the insight card of the here and now.

Hexagram 33 - Retreat

-letting go
-reevaluation
-don't hesitate to walk away

I await your interpretation.

I'll be straight with you. I am a naturally very credulous person. I am inclined to believe anything anybody tells me. When I was younger I read all sorts of books along the lines you suggest. I accepted the notion that there might be some sort "crack in the cosmic egg" and even now my emotional instincts long for some sort of spiritual reality and I am certainly emotionally inclined to believe there is some sort non-corporeal, spiritual, transcendent reality, but for all my longing I have never seen any indication that there might be one. Were I to encountered such an indication, I would be among the first to jump on the bandwagon. There were people I knew fairly well in my life and who I am inclined to believe in general who have claimed to encounter "ghosts" and "flying saucers" and to have ESP of one sort or another. I mean actual encounters - interaction with entities and vehicles of some sort hovering over their house like "Close Encounters". Do I think these people are lying? No. Am I convinced that their stories are accurate representations of the truth? Well, no.

I have to reiterate - apparently no encounter with extra-dimensional beings or ghosts or aliens or angels or spirits has ever yielded any unique or significant or specific information of any kind. Why is this? Is there nothing to tell? To learn? Isn't there anything important that we should know that those with a better vantage could share with us? I mean anything besides vague crap about being more spiritual or more open or some other such horse crap.

Because for every ounce of useful information we accept, we have to pay for it by accepting an ounce of nonsense. The 'trickster archetype', to put it in Jungian terms, will get his due one way or another. No amount of rationality can stop it.

Why?

Also, I really am curious to know which books you recommend (please see my post above), and what exactly you feel the ETs are, if not aliens?

I await your interpretation.

Oh, that's not bad.

Offer to do a "reading," then throw a bunch of concept words at someone, and let them attempt to connect the words in some way to their life, to find the "interpretation." That way, Limbo doesn't have to make any guesses or do the reading, and risk not being accurate.

Meg does all the work!
